Louisiana Ponytails take World Series

Sabine Parish is a hotbed of sports. Whether it’s basketball, baseball, softball, or football, the local teams always go far. However, this year has been something special, as two local softball teams went all the way to the Dixie Youth World Series…and took it all.The 2017 Ponytails team competed at the World Series in South Carolina and its roster of 11 and 12 year old girls consists of Sara Kate Booker, Jada Carhee, Gracie Rutherford, Brooke Jenkins, Camryn Ford, Tia Holmes, Kamryn Leone, Kaley Koss, Tessa Meshell, Georgia French, Kirsten Martinez, and Sarah McDaniel. The team was coached by the trio of Jer-emy Koss, Josh Jenkins, and Norman Booker III.

Sabine home to dual World Series champs

Hard work pays off, and it has in droves for the Louisiana Belles and Ponytails and those associated with the teams. Last week, both teams played in the Dixie Youth World Series and came out on top bringing both trophies back to Sabine, further solidifying the small parish as a hotbed of sports.

Belles, Ponytails remain in hunt

Both the Louisiana Belles and Ponytails remain in the hunt for their respective titles and are soundly defeating opponents left and right on the way there.

Word came through Sunday night that the Belles had defeated South Carolina 5-1, while the Ponytails routed Alabama 5-0. Earlier that day the Ponytails defeated Georgia 7-1 while the Belles defeated Alabama 10-2.

Ponytails receive donation

The Louisiana Ponytails are going to the World Series, and Bank of Montgomery’s Debra Funderburk and Tiffany Miller gave a donation, snacks, and promotional items to the teams.

Moore wins Many Bass Club’s July tournament

We all love Toledo Bend but there are times one wishes he would have just stayed in bed. Fishing the night portion of this month’s tournament, Gary Moore won first place in the Many Bass Club’s July tournament with a five fish stringer weighing 11.29 pounds. Moore caught his fish in the Housen area in water 14 to 22 feet deep using crank baits and jigs.

Tigers wrap youth football camp

Coach Jess Curtis and staff wrapped up their first annual youth football camp on June 29. The camp, open to third through eighth graders taught fundamentals while allowing the coaches a look at future Tigers. Cypress Bend to host first Firecracker Classic Golf Tournament, June 30-July 2

Bring your golfing buddy and join Cypress Bend Golf Resort, Spa, and Conference Center for the Firecracker Classic Golf Tournament. 

The Firecracker Classic, Florida Style Golf Tournament will be held June 30 - July 2. Teams will be flighted after the first round of play.

Entry fee is $400 per team including tournament entry, Saturday night dinner, Grab Bag of Goodies, Closest to the Pin Contests and Longest Drive.

Lady Tigers set volleyball camp

Many High School’s Lady Tigers will host a volleyball camp on June 13-15 for grades kindergarten through seventh grade.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, May 31 at 4 p.m. and no registrations will be accepted after that time. The cost is $30 per camper, which includes a shirt and sports drinks during the camp.

The times for the camp will be 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. for kindergarten through first grade, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for second grade through fourth grade, and 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. for grades five through seven.
