Blackcats hold off Simpson, 72-62

ANACOCO – After building a huge double-digit lead in the third period, the Florien Blackcats had to hold off a furious late charge from the Simpson Broncos at the Anacoco Hall of Fame games last Friday. A total of six Florien players scored at least nine points as the Blackcats downed the Broncos, 72-62.

Tigers roar past Rosepine, 33-13

Simply put, the Many Tigers are back. The fourth-ranked Tigers racked up a total of 540 yards of total offense en route to smashing the Rosepine Eagles, 33-13, in a District 3-2A contest last Friday night at Tiger Stadium. “This is how we play and that’s how we need to play the rest of the year,” Many head coach Jess Curtis said. “I’m proud of how our kids played tonight and we are going to climb out of this hole.” The Tigers are now 6-1 on the season, including a 1-1 mark in district play. Rosepine dropped to 3-4 overall, 1-1 in the league.

Pickering upsets top-ranked Tigers in district opener, 23-20

James Carhee (12) ran for 151 yards on 20 carries to lead the Many ground attack, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell to Pickering in the District 3-2A opener for both teams last Friday.

PICKERING – Simply put, the Many Tigers just didn’t get the job done. “We didn’t play like we have been taught,” Many head coach Jess Curtis said following his team’s 23-20 loss at the hands of the Pickering Red Devils last Friday in the District 3-2A opener for both teams. “They wanted it more than we did.” The loss was the first of the season for the Tigers (5-1, 0-1). However, it was an even more critical loss as it came in district play, which will make it tougher to win a district championship.

Defense sparks Tigers to easy win over Jonesboro-Hodge

JONESBORO – The Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers racked up 53 points in a Week 4 victory over North Caddo. But North Caddo isn’t Many. Not even close. The top-ranked Many Tigers remained unbeaten on the season with an impressive showing against the homestanding Tigers from Jackson Parish, 20-0, last Friday night. “That was just phenomenal,” Many head coach Jess Curtis said about his team’s defensive effort against Jonesboro-Hodge. “That was a team that scored 53 points last week. What a fantastic job by our defense.”

Tiger Tracks

It had been quite a while since Granny and Grampy had been to the Jonesboro area. In fact, it had been almost 20 years since they had stopped to empty out their RV in Jonesboro and Granny noted that the small town had grown quite a bit since her last excursion there. And just like the four previous weeks, Granny came away happy as her new favorite team, the Many Tigers, downed perennial powerhouse Jonesboro-Hodge, 20-0.
