A gathering of images, thoughts from New Orleans’ Superdome

Article Image Alt Text
Twenty-five years ago I had the opportunity to become Many Cheerleader sponsor. I jumped at the chance and by the end of football season, the Tigers, cheerleaders, band and hundreds of fans headed to the Superdome in New Orleans. The  Tigers were pitted against their district foe, the Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers in the championship game. Needless to say, we lost, 20-0. Those were the days when Jess Curtis, Norman Booker III, Brad Koss, Jeff Leach, Buster Jacobs and many more who wore the red, white and black.

When the Many Tigers took to the road in the third week of the season to meet up with the Loyola Prep Flyers, head coach Jess Curtis had his skill players work on how to keep a handle on a wet football. It worked as the Tigers had no turnovers and won the game, 14-7. So when the weather conditions were predicted to be subpar for their Class 2A second-round playoff matchup against No. 16 Springfield, Curtis decided to bring out the wet footballs once again.
