LAKE CHARLES – Simply put, the opportunity was there for the taking for the top-ranked Florien Blackcats. And they didn’t take advantage. “We quit doing what we do best,” Florien head coach Klifford Walker said following the Blackcats’ 60-56 loss at the hands of fourth-ranked Fairview in the Class B semifinals last Wednesday at Burton Coliseum in the Top 28. “We didn’t finish on several attempts around the goal. We got totally out of what we do. We were out of sync.”

Summerfield shoots its way to quarterfinals with win over Ebarb

EBARB – The best way to defeat a zone defense is quick ball movement, offensive rebounding and solid outside shooting.
And the Summerfield Rebels excelled in all three of those areas on Monday night. The ninth-seeded Rebels knocked down six three-pointers in the first half and owned the offensive glass as they knocked off the eighth-ranked and homestanding

Late Florien rally falls just short

Trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, the fifth-ranked Florien Lady Blackcats refused to go away. But in the end, they just didn’t have enough to overcome the huge deficit. Anacoco senior Jenna Price hit a huge shot with just under  two  inutes to go and made a couple  of big defensive plays down the stretch, helping the fourth-seeded Lady Indians hold  on for a 39-38 victory over rival Florien in the Class B quarterfinals last Thursday night

Florien, Pleasant Hill advance to quarterfinals

FLORIEN – The fifth-seeded Florien Lady Blackcats dispatched of district and parish rival, Converse, last Monday evening, coming away with a 70-55 victory over the 12th-ranked Lady Wildcats in the second round of the Class B playoffs. With the win, the Lady Blackcats improved to 32-8 on the season, while Converse closed out the season with a record of 19-15.
