Briscoe wins TBCA January fishing tournament

Kerney Briscoe, the 2013 Toledo Bend Christian Angler’s Angler of the Year, wasted little time in trying to repeat that honor in 2014 by winning the first tournament of the year on Jan. 10. Briscoe reeled in a five-fish stringer tipping the scales at
18.19 pounds to easily outdistance the competition en route to winning the January event.

The Many Lady Tigers never trailed, opening up an eight-point lead early en route to a 54-45 win over the Rosepine Lady Eagles in a District 3-2A contest on Saturday evening. The Lady Tigers (3-14, 2-6) got back-to-back buckets from Sarah Heard to open the game and got a three-pointer from Ariyanna Barzey for a 7-0 lead.

ZWOLLE – The Florien Lady Blackcats jumped out to a huge lead early on and never looked back in defeating District 3-B rival, Zwolle, last Friday night, 78-47. With the victory, Florien improved to 25-6 on the season, including a 2-0 mark in district play. The Lady Hawks dropped to 4-21 overall, 0-2 in the league.

NEGREET – The Negreet Lady Indians were oh so close.A late 10-0 surge proved not to be enough as the Lady Indi-ans fell in the girls’ finals of the Negreet Invitation Tournament to the undefeated Stanley Lady Panthers last Saturday night, 39-34.Negreet (11-16) had picked up easy wins over Many and Zwolle en route to the finals and awaited Stanley (29-0) in the fi-nals, as the Lady Panthers had to defeat Florien earlier in the day on Saturday to battle for the championship trophy.

EBARB – After trailing by seven points at the break, the Ebarb Lady Rebels needed a spark to get things going. Enter Shelby Etheridge. Etheridge scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the second half, leading the Lady Rebels to a comeback victory over the Negreet Lady Indians last Friday night, 39-36.
