NEGREET – Last year, the Florien Lady Blackcats suffered one solitary blemish on its District 3-B record en route to claiming the league softball title. There was no blemish this year around.

Florien rolls past Zwolle, 18-0

The Florien Lady Blackcats needed just 45 minutes to take care of business last Tuesday afternoon. One day after blanking Leesville in just 38 minutes, Florien improved to 20-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in District 3-B play with a convincing 18-0 victory over the Zwolle Lady Hawks.

It was a clean sweep for Pleasant Hill. Freshman Samiah Scott and junior Jaleen Scott were named the District 3-C Most Valuable Players, while Lady Eagle boss Paula Scott and Eagle leader Jarrad Rivers were honored as the league’s Coaches of the Year.

LAKE CHARLES – Simply put, the opportunity was there for the taking for the top-ranked Florien Blackcats. And they didn’t take advantage. “We quit doing what we do best,” Florien head coach Klifford Walker said following the Blackcats’ 60-56 loss at the hands of fourth-ranked Fairview in the Class B semifinals last Wednesday at Burton Coliseum in the Top 28. “We didn’t finish on several attempts around the goal. We got totally out of what we do. We were out of sync.”

Summerfield shoots its way to quarterfinals with win over Ebarb

EBARB – The best way to defeat a zone defense is quick ball movement, offensive rebounding and solid outside shooting.
And the Summerfield Rebels excelled in all three of those areas on Monday night. The ninth-seeded Rebels knocked down six three-pointers in the first half and owned the offensive glass as they knocked off the eighth-ranked and homestanding

Tigers’ comeback falls just short against Lakeview

CAMPTI - Former Class 2A rivals collided in Campti last Friday for a berth to the Louisiana High School Association’s (LHSAA) Top 28 in Lake Charles. However, the Many Tigers fell to the Lakeview Gators, 72-63, narrowly missing out
on the school’s first bid since 2009.
