Softball standout Craig named “Great of the Game”

Former Northwestern State softball standout Ginger Craig was the Exchange Bank Demon Great of the Game last Saturday as the Demon football team walloped Kentucky Wesleyan 49-7 at Turpin Stadium. Craig (1985-88) dominated opposing pitchers in an era where pitching was supreme, setting 10 Lady Demon career hitting records and still holding the career triples mark with 18.

Tigers defeat Bunkie 42-0

It’s midseason, and the Many Tigers have definitely hit their stride, easily handling Bunkie during their homecoming game by a score of 42-0. They tigers put up 397 yards of total offense during the game, 376 of which were rushing yards.

Many takes down Jonesboro-Hodge, moves to 5-0

The Many Tigers took it to Jonesboro-Hodge on September 30, defeating the team 32-12 and moving to an undefeated 5-0 on the season heading into a Homecoming week where they will play Bunkie in the district opener. The Many Tigers put up 294 rushing, 41 receiving, and 35 return yards on the night, for a total of 370 yards. Tabarius Garner went 4/7 passing for 35 yards. AJ Carter got two touchdowns on 17 carries for 128 yards, while Shacori Collier had 18 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Smith also had 35 yards on an interception return for a touchdown.

Tigers edge Union Parish 14-12 in tough game

In the annual “Red Out” game, the Many Tigers put up another victory, although a hard-fought one, on September 23 as they took on Union Parish, known for a long time as Farmerville amongst Louisiana high school football fans. The Tigers were to receive during the second half, so they kicked it to begin the game. However, it wasn’t long before Many Tiger Shannon Sanders, in the cornerback position, stepped in front of a pass by the Farmer’s star quarterback Nijeel Meeking for an interception.

Tigers top Griffins in absolute barn burner

In one of the closest games seen at a local sporting event in a number of years, the North Desoto Griffins and Many Tigers waged strategic sports combat against each other on September 9, with the Tigers coming out the victors 34-33 in a game that came down to the last seconds. The Tigers put up 106 passing and 236 rushing yards on the night for a total of 342, which is high for most teams, but not the Tigers, who just last week put up 507 total yards against Marksville.

The boys are back! Tiger football in full swing!

After being eliminated in the second round of the LHSAA Class 2A playoffs last year by West St. John, the Many Tigers didn’t take the defeat easily, and worked their “tails” off to go deeper in the playoffs and regain the coveted state title. After trouncing the Natchitoches Central Chiefs in a 28-18 win during the Jamboree, then routed the Winnfield Tigers 48-0 and took it to Marksville in a closer 28-20 matchup.

Swihart continues winning ways, remains atop Many Bass Club leaderboard

Glen Swihart won the Many Bass Club’s August tournament for the fourth time in a row with a five-fish stringer weighing 13.65 pounds. Swihart caught his fish flipping a jig and soft plastic in 5 – 15 feet of water in the Six Mile area of Toledo Bend.

Heard wins state championship, world series

Jaxson Heard, along with his “BASH” teammates, won the 8U Oklahoma State Championship in Weatherford, Oklahoma. His team also claims bragging rights as the winners of the 8U D-Bat World Series Championship for tournament league in Oklahoma City. He is the son of Dustin and Brittine Heard of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and the grandson of Carthan and Carol Heard of Blanchard and formerly of Many.
