Connor Arthur to be honored as Youth Conservationist of the Year

Connor Patrick Arthur, a junior at Hornbeck High School, will be honored on Saturday, March 18 at Boudreaux’s in Baton Rouge by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. He is being recognized for his volunteer work with 4-H as a State Shooting Sports Ambassador and leading “Wildlife of Louisiana” sessions for 450 elementary students at the Tamale Fiesta in Zwolle, teaching wildlife identification classes to pre-school children, teaching hunter safety lessons to junior high students, teaching a fishing lesson to 400 youth and volunteering with Hunters Enriching the Lives of People (HELP).

He has been named Youth Conservationist of the Year.

First Baptist Many sets children’s clinic

Head out to the ballpark on Sunday, March 12 at 11 a.m. for a children’s baseball and softball clinic will be held by the First Baptist Church of Many.

The event is for children playing t-ball through eighth grade.

Toledo Bend Bass Club holds big February tourney

The Toledo Bend Bass Club had an outstanding turnout for their February tournament and some nice fish caught. Mike Thaxton took all of the entrants to the wood shed this month as he came in first place with 18.28 pounds and had the big bass of the tournament with a 12.37 pound big fish and a check for over $700.

Flynn, Key compete at La. Short Course State Meet

Haley Flynn, the 13-year-old granddaughter of Rick and Mary Beth Tarver, swam in six events at the 2017 Louisiana Short Course State Meet in Sulphur. In only her second time swimming the 1650 Free (1 mile) in competition, she placed third (19:28.82) and in her second time swimming the 1000 Free in competition, she placed eighth (11:47.01). Haley also put up her best time in the 500 Free, placing 13th out of 48 swimmers. She dropped time in all of her events including the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 100 Butterfly. Haley swims with SwimCenla on the LSU-Alexandria campus. Haley has been swimming for a little over three years and is coached by Joie Stanley.

Many Bass Club holds February tournament

Derek Mong took first place in the Many Bass Club’s February tournament. He had a five-fish stringer of 28.03 pounds and the 7.69 pound big bass of the tournament.

Junior Quiz Bowl Tournament held

On January 24 and 25, the Sabine Parish School Board held this year’s Junior Quiz Bowl Tournament. Negreet High School placed first at the competition. Many Bass Club holds January tournament

Jimmy Campbell won first place in the Many Bass Club’s January tournament with a five stringer weighing 12.73 pounds, which included a 4.79 pound fish big bass of the tournament. Campbell caught his fish flipping a jig and soft plastic in the Indian Mounds area of Toledo Bend.

Shannon Sanders

Shannon Sanders stepped into the role of quarterback while still maintaining his positions on the defense and special teams units during the Many Tigers playoff game against the West St. John Eagles. He completed four of eight passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns plus never wavered when delivering the ball to other players on the team.
