I saw a bookmobile parked in Robeline the other day on my way to Natchitoches. It brought back many memories from childhood! When I was in fourth, fifth and sixth grades in Yuma, Arizona, we all looked forward to the bookmobile.

The time has come for me to re-organize and throw things away. I wonder how many times I’ve said this in the past 30 years. I am a packrat extraordinaire!! Books, newspapers, clipping, greeting cards, old programs from plays, football, pageants and dance recitals, pictures galore and more.

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

STATE WIDE LOUISIANA POLITICS

How is this shaping up?  In the governor’s race, candidate for State Rep. John Bel Edwards, D-Amite, made a $200,000 me-dia buy that took a lot of jabs at Scott Angelle.  He pointed out “The bottom line is Scott Angelle is only telling half the story” (de-scribing Edwards as a Christian and a West Point graduate.)  He points out Angelle is driven by Bobby Jindal and has been one of his workhorses for many years.

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

MAKE IT LOOK GOOD

Louisiana’s credit rating has recently been evaluated by several agencies, both Moody’s and S&P. Governor Jindal would have made me a very good used car salesman. He tries to make something that looks bad look good. In this case, it was our credit rating. He has publicly stated that the agencies didn’t lower their rating on the existing outstanding general obligation bonds. That is true, but this is what Jindal did not tell you. This was done because our state constitution gives those bonds first-call, even before the employee’s retirement benefits (all the money in the state treasury). If we go broke in this state, those bonds will be paid. Even at that,we must realize that the statebonds could cost more money in the future.

Remembering When. . .

by Lola Russell

If I had decided to make a resolution for 2015, I would have said that I would quit holding on to so much stuff. One of my daily devotions was about that very thing. This lady had an old spinning wheel that had belonged to her great, great grandmother. One of her cousins had admired it for many years and asked her if she could have it. Reluctantly at first, she gave it to her. After all it was her ancestor, also.

Darby, our newest grandchild visited in Many for the first time last weekend. Needless to say, her great grandmother, Lois Barnhill, was thrilled. Of course, this Grammie was excited too. Oldest son Davy spent Saturday afternoon with Riley Kate and Braeden, strolling down Memory Lane. For some reason, he decided to crawl up in the attic over the garage. Several hours later, after handing down boxes of “stuff” and bins of toys, books and magazine, we started sorting. It was almost like Christmas!!
