Random Ramblings

by Daniel Jones

I used to write this column almost every week while serving my first tenure at the Sabine Index. Much like then, I feel that if we have interesting submitted items for the opinion and editorial page they are much more worthwhile than my opinions on any number of things.

Patchwork

The ending of a school year always brought great excitement when we were kids. Looking forward to an entire three-month vacation and endless possibilities for fun just added to the happy smiles of the “last day of school.”

Looking Back

Citizens against the consolidation of area schools, as proposed by the Sabine Parish School Board, spoke about the problems it would create at the monthly meeting. The Jaycees’ Rodeo was a success. Some of the proceeds were donated to the Fall Festival for premiums and improvements to the buildings.

Hubby-dear retired last week after being in the banking business for over 25 years. Something tells me, he will only retire once….not like me, who retires and goes back or never leaves. Actually, he will be retiring to Cobb Drive to finish our massive renovation project. We are in the middle of re-doing the living/dining room and kitchen. Already we’ve decided to rest when those three rooms are complete and then it will be on to the addition and rest of the downstairs.

TOPS PROGRAM - EXPENSIVE AND UNDER REVIEW

The TOPS educational pro-gram has been extremely ben-eficial to Louisiana because it provides funding for many stu-dents who would not be able to afford college costs to enroll in universities and continue to re-ceive financial support.

How do you respond when a respected neurologist says, “You may be genetically clumsy.”? O-Kaaaaay!Apparently I am an accident waiting to happen.Friends have been aware of this since 2001, when I fell down a hill at DeGray State Park in Arkansas and broke my leg while we were on vacation.

Dear Fellow Patriots

The Constitution is nothing but a charter of negative liber-ties. Do you happen to remember who said that, and what effect does that remark have on you, or do you even care at all? What the Constitution really is, is a national guarantee on yours and our personal freedoms, right (inalienable), and the guarantee of our governing body to ensure our personal free-dom, our inalienable rights and to protect every citizen so that they may enjoy those benefits. No, it is not a contract that says that it will supply all of your needs.

Patchwork

I am so proud of myself. I am horrified of automatic machines…..take for instance the gas pump or the ATM machine at the bank or better yet, the car wash. If I had my way, I would never use any of them. I’m even hesitant to grind coffee beans in the grocery store! Well, several weeks ago, I attempted the car wash once again. The last time I drove to the carwash, I drove right through it without getting a wash. Then I had to go into the store, tell why I was there and get a refund, so I could try again. In fact, I’ve stooped so low as to have my brother take my car to get it washed. The rain and middy streets had made my car look horrible. White cars with pollen and mud is not a pretty sight.

KENNEDY - REELECTION TO TREASURER

Many have expected it and now it is official. John Kennedy announced he would seek re-election to State Treasurer this past Thursday. He previously toyed with the idea of running for governor or attorney general.

My name is Donna and I am addicted to two things: HGTV and NCIS with Leroy Jethro Gibbs!!! Since retiring, I have become obsessive about watching HGTV during the day. It really interests me to see Chip and Joanna of their show, Fixer Upper,
take a rundown old home and make it into the prettiest one on the street. “Are ya’ll ready to see your new home?” Joanna asks.
