Patchwork

For the past several months I have been taking a stroll down Memory Lane. Everyone knows about Memory Lane…it’s that place you go when you hear a certain song, find a lost picture or read an old letter. House renovations are continuing and I am trying to de-clutter my home. As I go through boxes of old newspaper, pictures, maga-zines and foot lockers of “stuff”, I have found some real gems.

GOOD OLE STORY

When we were teenagers  in Many we would frequently hang out at Andries Pontiac (next to Catholic church) at night. They stayed open late  - maybe even all night. That’swhere we would usually wind up each night and would always visit with whoever was in charge. One particular individual they had for a while was Clyde “Cheesie” Small. Clyde was always a friend of the young folks coming up. He hauled us on trips in his school bus to ball games and other activities. A talk with him was very entertaining.

Patchwork

Some weeks are better than others.  I should have known last week was going to be “one of those weeks” when a bug flewup my nose.  I know it came out, but I swear I could feel it up there.  I blew my nose repeatedly…but no luck.  My nose itched for several days, until I had something more important to think about.

Needless to say, life has been different for the past 9-10 weeks. One word describes what has caused the difference: renovation. Darn HGTV anyway!! I’ve learned to do things I never imagined----like sitting on the floor for hours on end, scraping up old linoeleum, in order to have brick pavers laid down; to sweeping this and that and then mopping floors in order to keep the dust down; packing boxes and then unpacking boxes and finally digging in the Pod to find certain things that I had stored.

RoweA Nuclear Weapons Ban Emerging

Every moment of every day, all of humanity is held hostage by the nuclear nine. The nine nuclear nations are made up of the P5 per-manent members of the United Nations Security Council and their il-legitimate nuclear wannabes Israel, North Korea, India and Pakistan, spawned by the mythological theory of deterrence. This theory has fueled the nuclear arms race since its inception wherein if one nation has one nuclear weapon, its adversary needs two and so on to the point that the world now has 15,700 nuclear weapons wired for im-mediate use and planetary destruction with no end in sight. This in-action continues despite the 45-year legal commitment of the nuclear nations to work toward complete nuclear abolition. In fact just the opposite is happening with the U.S. proposing to spend $1 Trillion on nuclear weapons “modernization” over the next 30 years, fueling the “deterrent” response of every other nuclear state to do likewise.

Patchworkb

Opening packages of food is a major deal at our house. We simply can’t do it right!!Growing up, I can remember improperly opened boxes of crackers and cereal, and other items, although they were clearly marked how to open them. Well that has been carried over into my house, too. In fact, I’ve become very careful how I open a box or pack-age. Usually there are instructions or perforations indicating how the manufacturers think the consumer should open the package. I have had the habit of grabbing something off the shelf and ripping off the top of the box. (I think its hereditary!!)With the onset of arthritis in my fingers, it gets harder and harder to unscrew lids or open packages. Potato chip bags have even become a challenge!!

Dear Fellow Patriots

By Robert Rowe

People can be despicable; for instance, should you happen to let some people know that annoy you or displeased by them in any way, they’ll find a way to double their efforts against you. We wish things were not that way characteristically concerning people, but they are; unfortunately, there are people out there that actually enjoy annoying other people. They are easy to spot because they’re always the ones who are always complaining about the way other people are, or are not treating them.

Hubby-dear “let” me drive the riding mower last week (before the rainstorm). He’s been retired for a full week now and I think he is enjoying all of this togetherness. When we were both working, we would meet each other coming and going….now he’s here all the time and so am I. Some friends have advised that is going to be an adjustment. Oh really?
