Funeral services for Obie Travis Stewart, 86, of Colmesneil, Texas, were held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Speer and Rev. Raymon Alford officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Obie Travis Stewart was born on Friday, April 19, 1935 in Many. He passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Sabine Medical Center in Many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie David Stewart and Eva Bell (Slater) Stewart; twin daughters, Jean and Joyce Stewart; eight brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Nixon and husband Eric; Cindy Wallis and husband Alan; Carla Messer and husband Scott; Michael Stewart and wife Lucy; Donna Stewart; Buddy Stewart and wife Marietta; Greg Stewart and wife Kelly; Dennis Stewart and wife Amy; Angie Parker; and Alan Manasco; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Marjorie Savell was born on Tuesday, January 19, 1932 in Florien. She passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 in Florien.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Lester Anderson Savell; her parents, James Nelson and Georgia Brown Nelson; sister, Madeline Fitzgerald; brother, James Larry Nelson; son-in-law, Billy Byles; granddaughter, Sandra “Sandy” Savell Terrell; great granddaughter, Kimberlee Arleen Savell; and her great great granddaughter, Memphis Grace Arnold.

Beulah “Faye” Dees was born on Friday, September 13, 1940 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2021 at Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation in Many.

She was preceded in death by her father, C. L. Hall; mother, Callie “Mae” Hall; daughters, Donna Dixon; Tina Dees; Theresa Floyd; and great grandson, Gunnar Clark.

Betty Joe McComic Goss

A memorial service was held for Mrs. Betty Goss on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Brother Brian Gilcrease officiating. Betty Goss, 81, passed away in Many, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

Betty was born on January 28, 1940, to the late G.W. and Lillie (Randolph) McComic. She grew up in Many, Louisiana and was a 1957 graduate of Many High School. On November 10, 1963, she married the love of her life, Wilfred Ray “Jack” Goss, and they made their home in the Oak Hill Community.

Betty worked a lengthy career in health care at Frasier Hospital, Founds Clinic, and Heritage Manor #2. Upon retiring she began a new career as the Assistant Director at the Sabine Parish Council on Aging, where she worked until 2016. She was known for her classy, stylish outfits, broach collection, and her love of laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Monroe Matthews and Grace Lee (Cobb) Matthews; and her three brothers, Ralph; Donald; and Cleveland Matthews.

Robert Clyde Lewis

The first in his family to live to be 90 years old, Robert Lewis departed this earth on July 10, 2021, surrounded by the family that was the joy of his life.

Anyone who knew Robert can testify to his great kindness, his innate honesty, his deep respect for others. He was a hard worker, a loyal husband, a caring father and grandfather, and a worthy role model to all. He leaves a huge void in the lives of his family.

Born Sept. 8, 1930 in Paris, Texas, Robert grew up near Moultrie, Georgia and graduated Moultrie High School in 1949. He married Hazel Harrell in 1950, and they welcomed a daughter Dianne in 1951. In the spring of 1956, he moved to Texas for better job opportunities. He worked at Shell Oil for six years. When the new Gulf Oil refinery opened east of Houston, he went to work there and stayed 37 years. His son Byron Jay was born in 1960.

Shirley Ann Perkins Savage

Shirley Savage, 77, of Converse passed from this life June 29, 2021, after a short, brave battle with lung cancer.

Shirley was born on May 19, 1944, to Jessie Lewis and Laura Wallace Perkins in Springhill, Louisiana. She has joined them as well as her beloved son, Maxwell Shane Savage.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her treasured husband of 56 years, Maxwell Savage, III; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Greg Arnold; her precious grandbabies, Holly Shane; Angela Grace; Gregory Alexander; and Nicholas Maxwell; her wonderful brothers, Wade Perkins and Charlie Perkins; nieces and nephews that she adored. Karen Lynn; Wade; Marty; Connie; Stacy; and Laura Anne.

Services will be held July 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Centuries Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.
