Shirley Ann Perkins Savage

Shirley Ann Perkins Savage

Shirley Savage, 77, of Converse passed from this life June 29, 2021, after a short, brave battle with lung cancer.

Shirley was born on May 19, 1944, to Jessie Lewis and Laura Wallace Perkins in Springhill, Louisiana. She has joined them as well as her beloved son, Maxwell Shane Savage.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her treasured husband of 56 years, Maxwell Savage, III; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Greg Arnold; her precious grandbabies, Holly Shane; Angela Grace; Gregory Alexander; and Nicholas Maxwell; her wonderful brothers, Wade Perkins and Charlie Perkins; nieces and nephews that she adored. Karen Lynn; Wade; Marty; Connie; Stacy; and Laura Anne.

Services will be held July 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Centuries Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.

Jerry Carlton Lehr

Jerry Lehr was born on Monday, April 6, 1942 in Many. He passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Sabine Medical Center in Many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Helen (Sibley) Lehr; daughter, Lisa Ann Lehr; and brothers, Darrel Lehr; Gene Lehr.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lehr of Zwolle; daughter, Dena Moore and husband Gerald of Many; sons, Bryan Lehr and wife Karen of Many; Jonathan Lehr and wife Tiffany of Zwolle; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service for Jerry Carlton Lehr will be held at a later date.

Mr. Richard Irwin Bagwell, age 73 of Zwolle passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. Born Tuesday, April 27, 1948 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Brewton Bagwell and Ray Bagwell; and his wife, Karen Bagwell.

Richard Irwin (much known as Dad and Paw) Bagwell graduated Sulphur High in 1966, and McNeese State University in 1970. Not much after that he served in the U.S. Military from 1971-1973 and in Vietnam.

Franklin Canter, Jr. was born on January 28, 1945 and passed away peacefully in his home on June 10, 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Sue Canter; five children, Daniel; Eva; Franklin, III; Michelle; Nelson. He had 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. He served in the Army from 1964-1969 as 101st Airborne in Vietnam. He was also a Zwolle Police Officer. Memorial Services will be held at the DAV building on 191 June 26,2021 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

Funeral services for Betty Browning, 78, of Florien were held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Cenchrea Church of the Nazarene with Rev. James Philen and Rev. Matt Warren officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Betty Browning was born on Monday, October 12, 1942 in Many. She passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Many Health Care North in Many.

Betty was a wife to Elvis Browning for 50+ years, a mother to their two sons, a homemaker and also worked in her earlier years as an LPN for Dr. Mitchell. Later in life, she and Elvis built poultry houses and lived their life on their farm in the Peason Community.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Phyllis Samples, 70 of Zwolle were held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle. Fr. Keith Garvin will be the officiant and interment followed at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Phyllis was born July 5, 1950 in Zwolle to Bertie Lee (Parrie) Remedies and Louis Remedies, Sr. and she entered into rest on June 10, 2021 in Shreveport.

Phyllis spent many years of her life as a dedicated caretaker to many of her family and friends. In her down time, she enjoyed playing bingo, painting, watching soap operas, and snacking on jellybeans. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind many years of memories and wisdom. Each day she reminded those who loved her that the simple things in life is what means the most.

Doyle Ralph “Popcorn” Scaife was born on Saturday, July 22, 1939, in Many. He passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his residence in Many with his wife by his side.He was preceded in death by his parents, Don Austin Scaife and Selma (Mains) Scaife; granddaughters, Kaitlin Ann Byles and Cassidy Brooke Price; and his brother, Dale “Pete” Scaife.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Ann Howard Scaife of Many; daughters, Shari Annette Scaife (and Bridget) of Dallas, Texas; Kathy Lynn Scaife Byles (and Jeff) of Many; sister, Delores Geoghagan (and Robert Dale) of Many; brother, Donald Scaife (and Beth) of Many; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

LaJune Taylor was born on Monday, January 29, 1940 in Zwolle. She passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton David Batson and Rosie Mae (Leggett) Batson; and son-in-law, Delmer Ammons, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Jo Anna Ammons of Pleasant Hill; sons, Jerry Taylor of Zwolle; Gerry Taylor and wife Theresa of Florien; and Jamie Taylor and wife Ruth of Marshall, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers: Cheyenne Barker, Jade Gildon, Krysten Taylor, Diana Garcie, Megan Ammons and Geri Erwin Ammons.

Funeral services for Judy Peterson, 62, of Many were held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial followed in the Spring Ridge Cemetery.

Judy Lynn Peterson was born on Tuesday, September 2, 1958 in Zwolle. She passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her father, Halvor Lamar Peterson; and her brothers, Halvor Peterson, Jr. and William Elvin Peterson.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Peterson of Many; daughters, Carmen Meshell Slusher-Joyce of Tupelo, Mississippi; and Susan Marie Hodges of Eatonville, Washington; son, Christopher James Slusher of Cuba, Missouri; sister, Belinda Gale Singletary of Marthaville; brothers, Norman Peterson of Many; Charles Peterson of Sachse, Texas; and Joe Peterson of Belmont; nine grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
