Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

GOVERNOR IN TROUBLE

A recent poll by J. M. C. Analytics & Polling proved devastating results for Governor John Bel Edwards. Even though the poll showed him leading at 38%, that was quite low. Rep. Ralph Abraham had 23% and businessman Eddie Rispone was at 7%. With the Governor only polling 38% , Edwards has little chance of avoiding a runoff. He needs at least 50% plus 1% for that.

In a two-way runoff between Edwards and Abraham, the two candidates are statistically tied considering the margin of error. It was pointed out that name recognition is an advantage to a sitting governor. If political ads continue to expose Edwards for his tax raising ways, anti-businessmen and litigation crusade are targeting the energy industry, the governor is sure to fall behind Edwards in a state that leans so much Republican.

Patchwork

Last week, hubby-dear told me I have an unusual logic path. In other words, I think differently from him!

Granted, I was never a star student in math. Algebra never made much sense to me. Why in the world would I care was ‘Y’ was?

We were on the road in the Traverse, driving to visit relatives in Memphis last week, when he could only shake his head and laugh.

Katherine Elizabeth “Beth” Lunday Magee, the daughter of William Baker “Bill” Lunday, a World War I veteran, and Zaidee Mason Lunday, was born in Pelican on June 29, 1922. She passed away April 29, 2019. She was a descendant of a pioneer DeSoto Parish family. Her grandparents Dr. William H. and Anna Hart Mason settled in the Grove Hill community and later moved into Pelican in the late 1800s, after the construction of the railroad. One of Beth’s most vivid memories involved the Louisiana maneuvers in 1941. Hundreds of young soldiers arrived by train in Pelican and shopped at the local stores, much to the delight of the young ladies of the town. Beth often spoke of meeting Dwight Eisenhower and George Patton at the store run by her father and mother, formerly Dr. Mason’s office. Beth graduated from Pelican High School in 1939. She married James Franklin Magee, a World War II veteran, in 1942.
