Be aware of cancer symptoms

Cancer can cause many symptoms, but these symptoms are most often caused by illness, injury, benign tumors, or other problems. If you have symptoms that do not get better after a few weeks, see your doctor so that problems can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. Often, cancer does not cause pain, so do not wait to feel pain before seeing a doctor.

Some of the symptoms that cancer may cause include:

Breast changes

--Lump or firm feeling in your breast or under your arm

OCC to offer special program

One cannot imagine the impact that packing a shoebox has for a child, and all children and youth have an exciting opportunity to find out on August 17 from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Many.

Jamacia David, a full circle speaker for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, will speak. She grew up in Guyana, in South America, and received a shoebox as a child. She will present her story and how it was a life-changing event for her and her family.

Her father was often away for months at a time because jobs were so scarce. In order to provide for his family, he had to travel to other countries for work. While away, Jamacia’s mother struggled to make ends meet on her own.

Governor John Bel Edwards

Last week, computers at the Sabine Parish School Board and schools were stricken with malware, which necessitated a State of Emergency being declared by Gov. John Bel Edwards.

Malware can be defined as malicious software, such as a program or file, that is harmful to a computer or its user. They can be computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, or spyware.

Also falling victim to the malicious software were Morehouse Parish and city of Monroe schools.

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

TRICKY POLITICS

How many times have we heard our presidents and our political leaders state that we are a country of laws. We’re told we are to follow these laws. I could not believe my ears when I heard our House Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi state, on television, how to not comply with the law. ICE was arresting convicted illegal immigrants who were already tried in our courts and the order was to pick them up and send them back. Speaker Pelosi was speaking how she was unhappy that this was being done and she told them ways to prevent them being arrested, such as: don’t answer the door or hide if you see men like this coming up your sidewalk. Where are we going when our leaders want to “coach” illegal immigrants. How many times have we heard it stated by our political leaders that we are a nation of laws. It seems it only works when it supports their political interests. They want them to stay and eventually be their supporters.

Patchwork

The Back-to-School Rally, which will be held for all Sabine Parish students in Pre-K through 12th grade, is near and dear to my heart.

I always looked forward to purchasing school supplies when I was a child. Mom would take me to the store and let me pick out my notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, ruler and other necessities I needed for the upcoming school year. When I became a Mom, I couldn’t wait to take my boys school shopping. (I’m sure I enjoyed it more than they did!!)

I have funneled my energy and enjoyment into school supply shopping by joining the Back-to-School Rally committee more than a decade ago.
