Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

THE COUNTRY VOTE

This article recently appeared in LaPolitics.com.

Several rural parishes that supported Governor John Bel Edwards in 2015 are now solidly in the corner of GOP challenger Eddie Rispone, or strongly leaning his way.

In the 2015 primary Edwards managed to win the most primary votes in 12 rural parishes that U. S. Senator Mary Landrieu lost in 2014. Black folks were a driving force in this election and it is also the country vote that helped Edwards cross the line. Those parishes were Jackson, Webster, Avoyelles, Union, Winn, Ouachita, Franklin, Richland, Lincoln, Catahoula, West Feliciana, Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Charles, Livingston, Ascension, St. Mary, Jefferson Davis, Calcasieu, Beaurgeard, Allen, Evangeline, and Rapides.

Patchwork

We are getting forgetful about putting out the garbage for pick-up on Tuesdays and Fridays! It has gotten to the point that we have to wheel it out to the back sidewalk, so we’ll see it when we head out in the morning. Some mornings the trash is still sitting there at noon. Oops!

Last week, I was on my way to a meeting, when I was blocked in by the trash. I heard the garbage truck just down the street, so I quickly grabbed the bin and began rolling it down the hill. I was almost to the street, when the garbage truck whizzed by me.

Really,” I thought? How could the two men on the back of the truck not see me? One man had his back to me, and the other just missed me. I even yelled, “Here I am!”

Richelle Dorris’s creates 2019 Tamale Fiesta poster unveiled

Recently, the design for the official 2019 Tamale Fiesta poster was unveiled to much fanfare at the fiesta building.

Sketching out her career in art, Richelle combines her love of fantasy and nature, inspired by growing up in her hometown of Hornbeck. She began drawing at an early age—first copying her sister’s stick figure doodles—and she continues to practice and develop her craft every day. Her form of art is best described as imaginative, creating pictures that burst onto the page with intricate details and bold colors. She uses watercolor and gouache to express her ideas through unique layered compositions. Her first artistic hero was Aubrey Beardsley, leading her to fall in love with the Art Nouveau movement. She continues to build her own quirky style while finding new artistic influences and techniques.

Tigers take another district win, defeat Menard Eagles

The hashtag #manymade or “Many made” is quite familiar for those that follow the exploits of the Tigers on Twitter. No photo illustrates that better than this one, with the little cutie decked out in her MHS regalia for the game. (Photo courtesy Tina McCormic)

The Many Tigers now have two district wins after soundly defeating the Holy Savior Menard Eagles on October 4 by a score of 52-31.

Although the high-powered running game of the Tigers gave them a nice cushion by the end of the game, things did not start out as well for Many.

The Eagles received the kickoff to begin the game and got to their own 40-yard line before Keelan Williams took him down. On the Eagles’ first play their quarterback threw a pass right down the middle and hit a wide-open receiver for a touchdown, which put them up 7-0.
