Thomas A. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I.

Funeral services and a celebration of life for Tommy Brown, M.D., 61, of Scottsville, Texas was held January 4 at First Methodist Church, Head of Texas Street in Shreveport. Dr. Pat Day officiated with assistance by the Reverends Richard “Mike” Stowell and Jimmy Price. Dr. Brown was born February 14, 1956, and peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2017, with his dear family at his side, after a brief but valiant battle with heart disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge “Tad” and Marjorie “Pug” Brown and his oldest sister, Edna Dell Duggan.

Huey Cordova

Funeral services honoring the life of Huey Paul Cordova were held January 8 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. He was born April 22, 1939 in Zwolle to James Cordova and Julia Martinez Cordova. He entered into rest on January 4, 2018 in Shreveport at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Birdie Ezernack, Dorothy Bebee, Lena Siller, and Ida Byrd; brothers, Gilbert Cordova, James Thomas Cordova and Joseph Cordova He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lowell Cordova; daughter, Michelle Cordova Carter; sisters, Ruby Deering and Virginia Brown; grandchildren, Lakota Cordova, Wiyot Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Honoring as pallbearers were Lakota Cordova,Wiyot Carter, Brian Cordova, Richie Brown, Zachary Ezernack, and Dalton Ezernack.

W.E. “Boots” Hayes

Funeral services for W.E. “Boots” Hayes, 89, of Many, will be held Saturday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church Of Many with the Rev. Jonathan Bost and Elder Jim Freeland officiating. Burial will follow in the Many Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday, January 12, at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. He was born Saturday, May 19, 1928 in Robeline, and passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at Willis Knighton Pierremont in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred M. Hayes; parents, Mack and Beulah Hardy Hayes; brothers, Mack Hayes, Jr. and James Hayes; sister, Nelwyn Bush. He is survived by his son, Steven Hayes and wife, Melissa, of Woodlands, Texas; daughter, Ann Lites and husband, Duane, of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren, Mindi Gooch and husband, Jereme, of Round Rock, Texas, Mandi Hall and husband, Jason, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Megan Hohenberger and husband, Andrew, of Midland, Texas, Steven Hayes Jr.

James Builteman

Oscar “James” Builteman died peacefully in the company of his loved ones in Norman, Oklahoma on January 1, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Elizabeth Builteman; sister, Elizabeth Mitchell from Many; son, James Leroy Builteman of Saint Augustine, Florida; daughter, Rebecca Ann Bradford of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Bradford, Sarah Jane Spivey, and Christopher James Bradford of Norman, Oklahoma; and his granddaughter, Katherine Elaine Builteman of Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Alexander James Builteman, of Saint Augustine, Florida. James was born on June 4, 1928 in New Orleans to Oscar Christian and Bessie Builteman. He grew up in Many and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1951 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. He married Mary Elizabeth Glaze that same year, then served actively in the U.S. Army until 1953, and in the Army Reserve until 1959.

Mary Wilbur Lyon Gadd

Mary Wilbur Lyon Gadd was born February 22, 1929 in West Point, Mississippi to Ernest Lyon and Sudie Lou Thomas Lyon of Cedar Bluff Mississippi. She passed away due to lung cancer and pneumonia on December 14, 2017 at Many Healthcare. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Thomas Gadd Sr.; and daughter-in-law, Katie Gadd. She is survived by her children, Gary Eugene Gadd and wife, Peggy, John Thomas “Tommy” Gadd Jr., Valeria Marie Gadd, and Frances Angeline Gadd Adams and husband, Murdock; grandchildren, William, Michael, Shane, Kristi, Jennifer, Matthew, and Brett; and multiple great grandchildren. Cremation services will be held at a later date by Kilpatrick Rose Neath of Mansfield. The family would like to thank Dr. Chet Gregory, all the staff at Many Healthcare, and the staff of Hospice of Natchitoches.

Graveside services for Marie Lively-Bridges, 102, of West Monroe were held December 23 at Spring Ridge Cemetery conducted by Bro. Raymond Alford. She was born Saturday, September 11, 1915 in Pleasant Hill, and passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Monroe. She was a member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monore. She spent most of her life in Shreveport where she owned Lively’s Ceramic Shop. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Pierce “Pete” Lively and second husband, Lemuel “Lem” Bridges; parents, Ike and Bessie Etheredge Rains; sisters, Gerturde Byeaux, Muriel Boger and Christine Emmons; brother, Malcolm Rains. She is survived by her three special children, Carol Melton and husband, Jimmy, of Birmingham, Alabama, Mark Myers and wife, Phylis, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Sandra Bourgeois and husband, Terry, of West Monroe; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

David Martin Piehler

Graveside service for David Martin Piehler was on December 20, 2017 at Belmont Cemetery in Belmont. David passed on December 18, 2017 after a brief but devastating illness. David worked from high school to the age of 60 in the oilfield, having only been retired for two years before falling ill. He gave his blood, sweat and tears to his family, who he loved more than anything. He will be remembered by sons in whom he instilled the meaning of “integrity” and “respect.” It takes a strong woman to love a Piehler man and David was loved by one of the strongest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Theo Piehler. He is survived by the love of his life, Lisa Piehler; sons, Dennis and Michael with wife, Tara; grandchildren Emma and Victor; brothers, Richard and Chris, Rebecca; sister, Arlynne and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Derrell “Mr. C” Cassell

Funeral services honoring the life of Derrell Cassell, 78, were held December 19 at Henrietta Congregational Methodist Church in Converse with the Reverends Chucky Clark and Logan Brock officiating. Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery in Converse. He was born on July 6, 1939 to Randolph and Marie Pritchard Cassell and entered into rest on December 17, 2017. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Derrell retired from the Sabine Parish School Board and also retired from the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cassell; parents; and brother, Joe Cassell. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Derrell R.

Frances Loree Sneed Jackson

Frances Loree Sneed Jackson, 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 19, 2017 at Sabine Retirement Center. Funeral services were held December 22 at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many. Burial followed at the Florien Cemetery. Loree was born October 26, 1929 in Fisher to Clyde and Bessie Sneed. She graduated from Mount Carmel High school and later from Northwestern State University. Soon after graduation, she began teaching at Oak Grove High School in Sabine Parish. While teaching, she met the love of her life, W.E. Jackson, Jr. who had just returned from serving in World War II in the navy. They married on June 30, 1951 and soon thereafter moved to El Dorado, Arkansas where they owned and operated a Singer Sewing store, El Dorado Sewing Center, on Main Street for decades. Their fine work allowed them many opportunities and took them around the world to places including New York, California, Hawaii and Spain.

She was born Thursday, February 2, 1933 in Shreveport, and she passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Titus Pruitt; parents, Jeff Hopkins and Exie Arrington Hopkins; brothers, J. K. Hopkins and Hardy Hopkins; and sisters, Annie Mae Corley, Ava Dell Knippers, Myrtle Moore, and Willie Horn. She is survived by her niece and caretaker, Joan Bush and husband, Jimmy, of Many along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
