Melvin “Doc” Veuleman

On Monday November 19th 2018, Melvin Truitt Veuleman passed away peacefully at his home in Marthaville.

He was born on April 9, 1927 in Marthaville. He served his country in the Navy during WWII in a tour in the South Pacific, he came home and drove a gas truck for Valley Farmers Co-op for 44 years until he retired in 1991. He then spent his retirement working his garden, raising livestock, and spending time with his grandchildren. Doc served as a deacon at Anthony Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of 46 years, Charlene Crump Veuleman, and his second wife of 23 years, Mary Lou Veuleman; his parents, Joseph Edward Veuleman and Mary Lee Campbell Veuleman; and his brothers, Tullos “Tubb” Veuleman and Aubrey “Hook” Veuleman.

He is survived by his only daughter, Denise Veuleman McAlpin of Robeline; grandchildren, John McAlpin and wife, Abbie, of Marthaville, Charlie McAlpin and wife, Isabel, of Hammond, Joseph McAlpin and wife, Jillian, of Bossier City, Jim McAlpin of Natchitoches, Katy LeMaire and husband, Paul, of Little Elm, Texas, and Jacob McAlpin of Tampa, Florida; great grandchildren, Carson and Dawson; and a sister in law, Joyce Veuleman.

Funeral services were held November 24 at Robeline First Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Ray officiating. Burial followed at the Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville.
