Jones graduates basic training

Air Force Airman Christopher A. Jones graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Joey and Sarah Jones of Marthaville. He is the grandson of Lynn and Thom Gardner of Hallsville, Texas; Mike and Sharon Jones of Shreveport; Patricia Lawrence of Shreveport; and Donny Lawrence of Martin.

Wenth graduates from Norwich University

 

Nicole Kathleen Wenthe of Anacoco (71403) received a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Norwich University at the May 12 commencement ceremony held in NU’s Shapiro Field House.

Norwich University graduated over 500 students from 33 undergraduate academic programs and the Master of Architecture program. The Class of 2018 hailed from 33 U.S. states and 10 different countries abroad. The largest numbers of graduates were in the following majors: Criminal Justice, Management, Nursing, Mechanical Engineering, and Biology.

At an early age, my father taught me to always respect the flag by placing my hand over my heart when it passed by. Patriotism was part of growing up in a U.S. Marine Corps family.

Cultural District plans busy second half of year

“I’m really excited about the next six months of Movies in Many, Music in Many, and Happy Hours Creative Classes at the Depot Museum,” says Many Mayor Ken Freeman.

“Our Cultural District Advisory Committee has worked really hard during the last few weeks to plan and finalize these pro-grams from July through December, and I want to thank them for coming up with such appealing programs,” Freeman continued.

TBCAC helps keep Sabine clean

The Toledo Bend Citizens’ Advisory Committee had a great turnout on Friday, June 15 to pick up litter along their adopted part of Highway 191. A whopping 30 bags were gathered. They are hoping during their cleanup next quarter to not to have so many bags. They urge everyone to do their part in keeping Sabine clean. Shooting currently under investigation

A man was shot and killed on the night of Monday, June 18 at the Apollo Apartments in Many.

According to the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Lynnquithis Lee January of Lake Charles was sit-ting at the bottom of the stair-case at D building when he was approached and shot from be-hind, says Assistant Coroner Ron Rivers.

Patchwork

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get. I am getting so darned forgetful lately that I end up laughing at myself.

I was in a long conversation with my eldest son, Davy, as he drove home from his job in northwest Arkansas. We chatted about this and that and suddenly I couldn’t remember where I’d laid down my cell-phone. I walked all around the house, looking on end tables, the coffee table, the dining room table, the island in the kitchen…..the list goes on. I even looked in the laundry room, since I had been in there putting laundered towels into the dryer earlier.

Joseph Longoria

A funeral mass was conducted honoring the life of Mr. Joseph Ray Longoria on June 21 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. He was born on October 9, 1952 to James Willis Longoria and Dorothy Lee Jordan Longoria and passed on June 12, 2018 in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Longoria, and brother, Ricky Longoria. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Jake Leone, of Zwolle; sons, William Ray Longoria of Zwolle and Tommy Longoria and wife, Jessica, of Shreveport; sister, Judy Garcia and husband, Stan, of Zwolle; brothers Louis Longoria and wife, Patty, of Mansfield, Lester Longoria and wife, Renee, of Zwolle, Bill Longoria and wife, Carolyn, of Bunkie and James Gil-crease and wife, Marie, of Bossier City; and grandchildren, Sarah Longoria of Castor

Funeral services for Helen Marie Rains, 90, of Many, were held June 23 at First Baptist Church of Many with the Rev. John Lewing II officiating. Burial followed in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery. She was born Friday, July 29, 1927 in Sabine Parish, and passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Many Health Care North in Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. P. Rains; parents, Lonzo Morris and Ethel Asby Morris; grandson, Kenneth Dale Small; sister, Willie Ethel Morris Boydstun; and brother, James Pershing Morris. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Beth Hines and husband, Bob, of Many; son, Dennis Rains and wife, Patricia, of Many; grandchildren, Rodney Small of Many, Monica McDonald and husband, Roy, of Pitkin, James Small and wife, Stephanie, of Conroe, Texas, Roxanne Rains of Natchitoches, Jacqualyn Fitch of Many and Jaime Harris and husband, Trey, of Magnolia, Texas; 11 great grand-children; two great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
