Robert Angelo

Funeral services honoring the life of Robert John Angelo, 73, were held February 6 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, with the Rev. Charlotte Birdwell officiating. Burial followed at Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell. Robert was born on March 24, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to Michael and Jemila Angelo and passed away on February 3, 2016 in Shreveport. Robert John Angelo touched the lives and hearts of many during his life. Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Michael and Jemila Angelo. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Jo Ann Sistrunk Angelo of Converse; sister, Barbara Laabs of Puerto Rico; brother, Mike Angelo of Beaumont, Texas; father-in-law, T.J. Phillip Remedies

Funeral services honoring the life of Phillip Remedies, 89, were held February 4 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Many with Father Thomas Elanvunkal officiating. Burial followed at St. John’s in Many. Phillip was born in Louisiana to Hildo and Mary Remedies. He passed away at his residence at Sabine Retirement in Many with his family by his side. Proceeding Phillip in death were his parents, Hildo Remedies Sr. and Mary Sepulvado Remedies; wife, Leola G. Remedies; daughter, Phylis Amber Remedies; nine brothers and one sister. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, James N. Reginald Longlois

Reginald Bryant Longlois, of Many was born on Wednesday, September 29, 1943 in Natchitoches Parish. He passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his home in Many. He will be cremated and the family will have a private service at a later date. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lynette Childs Longlois; father, Bryant “Bud” Longlois; parents, Doris and R.D. Rushing and grandparents, John and Leta Gentry. Reginald was a veteran who served in the Vietnam War protecting his country. After returning home and being released from the Army he was the first of his family to pursue a college degree. With the help of the GI Bill, Reginald earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Northwestern State University in three years. He came to Many to work as an insurance agent at Vandegaer Insurance Agency in the early 1970s. He owned several businesses after leaving the insurance business and continued to be a local businessman until he retired in 2000.

Phillip Gauthier

Phillip Anthony Gauthier passed away among friends and family after battling liver disease on December 29,  2015, in the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alice Gauthier, and his eldest brother, Paul Gauthier. He is survived by his three brothers and all of his children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Phillip had been a fixture of the Toledo Bend community since his family moved to the area in the late 1960s. He graduated from Negreet High School in 1969. The Marine Corps cut his time in college short, but allowed him to travel much of the country he loved so dearly. Most of his working life was spent building houses, including his own. Later, as an insurance adjuster, he was able to once more indulge is love of travel. His generosity and good humor will be missed by all who knew him. His wake will be held at Aimwell Baptist Church on February 9, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by internment at 11 a.m.

Funeral services for Nell Lewing, 81, of Florien were held February 1 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donny Paul Lewing officiating. Burial followed in the Florien Cemetery. Nell Lewing was born on Wednesday, July 11, 1934 in Sabine Parish. She passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Daisy Royal; sisters, Jean O’Dell, Shawnee Pickens, Hazel Evans, and Tiny Royal and her brothers, Ralph Royal, James Royal, and Arthur Royal. She is survived by her husband, Sherman Lewing, Sr. of Florien; son, Sherman Lewing, Jr. of Florien; sister, Yvonne Broussard of Arizona; granddaughter, Shawnee Molina of Whitney, Texas; great grandsons, Tristan Molina and Spencer Molina both of Whitney, Texas along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.warrenmeadows.com

Funeral Services for Laverne Tooke, 96, of Denton, Texas, were held January 31 at Bayou Scie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Langford officiating. Burial followed in the Bayou Scie Cemetery. Laverne Tooke was born on Tuesday, May 6, 1919 in Ben Lomond, Arkansas. She passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Joyful Journeys in Denton, Texas. Laverne worked during World War II at Red River Army Depot. Laverne enjoyed the many years of work at the drug store where she sold cosmetic, milkshakes and delivered medicine. She sold Avon for 7 years in the New Orleans district. Laverne was a devoted wife and mother. She loved gardening, cooking and baking.
