Harlow recalls first month as St. Jude Queen

My first month as the new Miss St. Jude Fall Fest has been amazing. I have already been able to do a couple things to represent my title. The first event I got to go to was the grand re-opening of the newly renovated West Park Pool in DeRidder, my home town. There, I met Senator John Smith who helped fund this amazing and beautiful addition to a great city.

Townsend announces for FFA national candidacy

Brooke Townsend, an FFA member and graduate from Converse High School, has been selected to represent Louisiana as the National Officer Candidate for FFA (Future Farmers of America). Brooke served as the Louisiana FFA State Vice-President from 2013-2014 and running for a national office has always been a dream to her. She currently attends Louisiana Tech University and majors in Agricultural Education with a minor in Biology.

SCOA spotlights meal site managersClassie

Sabine parish has five meal sites, according to Executive Di-rector Tammy Mangum of the Sabine Council on Aging. Sites are located in Many at the Legacy Building; at Toledo Center on Hwy. 191 near Toledo Town; and at Pleasant Hill, Con-verse and the newest site in Flo-rien at the Lions Club.

Jim Garcie family reunion set, Sept. 5

The Jim Garcie Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5 at VFW Post #4858 in Many.Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and drink. Lunch will be served at noon. You are also asked to bring old photos of relatives and ancestors.

NSU to welcome students

Northwestern State University will welcome students back to campus for the 2015-16 academic year beginning Saturday, Aug. 22. Events start with Move-In Day on Aug. 22 and continue with more than two weeks of Demon Days activities through Sept. 9 Move-In Day is on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Northwestern State faculty and staff along with members of the Natchitoches community can meet at Iberville Dining Hall, then take a shuttle to University Columns, University Place I or II, or Varnado Hall to help students find their rooms, answer questions and help them get settled in. Twohour shifts are available for volunteers starting at 7 a.m.

NSU Theatre presents “Always….Patsy Cline”

A packed house for the July 30 production of “Always…. Patsy Cline,” presented by the NSU Theatre Dept. on campus, laughed, applauded and listened to the talented Alisha Munds portray the famous country singer Patsy Cline. Eerily similar to Cline’s powerful voice, Munds put on the performance of a lifetime, as she portrayed the singer. With her country accent and superb vocal performance, Munds made the audience believe that they were sitting at the Grand Ole Opry and listening to the star, who died in a plane crash at a young age.
