FINANCE LAW

By Pete Abington.

The Times Picayune is writing a “Louisiana Purchased” series. They are pointing out that more than $7 million between 2009-2012 was spent on meals in fancy restaurants, sporting tickets, auto leasing, hotels and more. They allege that this money is taken from the campaign accounts of the candidates. At this time it is uncertain what, if any, new regulations will be introduced to identify, except for usage in the upcoming session.

INDEPENDENT VOTER

The Independent Party voters are playing a bigger and bigger part in the election process. Questions are asked: Why aren’t
they affiliated with the main line party? How do they vote? When do they vote? Why are there more than ever? Are the Democrats or Republicans suffering? A recent report reflected the Independent voters are barely showing up at the polls

I have never been to a Bachelorette Party. Back in the 1980s, when I married, bachelor parties were for the young…. and I was an older bride. However, I did have a number of great showers, hosted by friends, the Methodist Church and BPW ladies

DEBATE ON GROWING POPULATION

Governor Bobby Jindal frequently comments on the growth and population in our state. He is very positive and states it is still growing. Some argue that the population in Louisiana, rather than growing, it is changing. Growth is only in small pockets of the state.

I wonder if Pete Nelson would like to come to Many and build a complimentary treehouse in my Cobb Drive woods?? It could be my writer’s retreat or a place to go to meditate, pray and solve the problems of the world. I have become very interested in the new program, Treehouse Masters about builder Pete Nelson and his many works of art. Treehouse Masters premiered on May 31, 2013 on the Animal Planet channel at 9 p.m. Nelson, an energetic 50-ish man, is the tree-loving head honcho of Nelson Treehouse and Supply in Fall City, Washington. He owns and operates Treehouse Point, a retreat consisting of six treehouses that clients can rent and experience the glories of tree living

The countdown to the wedding has begun and the weeks are zooming by with activities. Showers, bachelorette weekend
in Galveston (and the moms get to go!!!), rehearsal dinner and then the wedding. Seems like we will barely have time to
breathe before Paul and Lexie say “I do”. Being the mother of the groom should be easy, but this mother is so happy to be involved!! This is an important day for my youngest son and his intended…. A happy time and yet, bittersweet

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

You know how you feel, but how does your fellow man feel about certain issues on the surface today. A recent poll by  Hamilton Campaigns polled six hundred likely voters with over-samples from Baton Rouge and New Orleans

GOOD BYE, COUSIN JUNIOR

This past week our parish suffered a tremendous loss with the death of Judge John S. Pickett, Jr. His life reflected throughout this parish in many ways. Many politicians state they are public servants, but Jr. (as we called him) truly lived that role. He was always accessible to the public. Many times when people came to him for legal services he did not even charge them, but just gave advice and counsel services.

I love Valentine’s Day….I love hearts…I love expressing my love to others…..but it’s the kid-sized valentines with warm wishes and sentiments that I love the most!!! Back in grade school, each classmate would construct a special mailbox for their valentines. We would cover shoe boxes with red or pink construction paper and then paste lacy white hearts, cupids and such on the sides for decoration.

When we were presented the state budget this past year, current funds were included as income when actually they were various anticipated funds that were coming from pending lawsuits that were expected to be settled or adjudicated.
