Wright, Martinez, Tannehill named Postumous Award honorees

Three leading citizens in Sabine Parish have been named as the posthumous honorees for the 2018 Sabine Hall of Fame Banquet, according to Pete Abington, committee chairman.

The honorees, who will be recognized at the Tuesday night, March 27 banquet, are Rosalind Carter Wright of Many, A. T. “Bebee” Martinez of Zwolle, and Richard Marion Tannehill of Many.

A short biography of their lives and accomplishments follows.

K9 officer addresses Rotary

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Dept. K9 officer Josh Axsom was the special guest at the Many Rotary Club’s March 15 meeting.

Axsom spoke to the attendees about his second annual Bulletproof the Blue event, which will raise money for the Natchitoches SWAT Team. Last year, the money raised was used to purchase bulletproof vests.

Local robotics teams compete

Leach named Student of Year

Congratulations to Landyn Leach for being selected the Junior High School Student of the Year for Sabine Parish. Landyn, son of Samantha and Aaron Leach, is a fifth grade student at Negreet and received a check and gift basket from City Bank for his accomplishment. Many High track receives help with meet

The Many High School Track & Field Team hosted their Invitational Track Meet on March 15. City Bank was happy to donate a check and Gatorade to help with the event. Remembering When. . .

I am back. A year ago, on St. Patrick’s Day I did not have the luck of the Irish, although I was wearing a green shirt. I was at the Bellaire Fitness Center in Bossier, getting ready to compete in the Senior Olympics Bean Bag Baseball Tournament. We were lining up to have a group picture taken before starting to play.

As I stood up and tried to get in line, I stumbled and fell. One second I was very happy and ready to have a good time and the next second I was on the floor with a broken femur. It happened so fast that I do not know just what happened, but I would much rather have broken the camera as I’ve been cautioned not to do. You can always replace a camera.

I have been stricken with a new malady. It’s called “old age” and it is horrible.

Years ago there was a song,” She Can’t Find Her Keys”. I can identify with that little tune so well after celebrating a recent birthday. Why am I older but still feel young? (In my heart I am only 18 or 19) One of those mysteries of the aging process, I guess.

Allie Nadine Haley Isgitt

Funeral services for Allie Nadine Haley Isgitt, 86, of Belmont were held March 14 at Union Baptist Church with the Reverends John Lewing II and Glen Howard officiating. Burial followed in the Belmont Cemetery. She was born on Tuesday, July 21, 1931 in Sabine Parish, and passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at her residence in Belmont. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Belmont. She spent her entire life caring for others and taking care of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved cooking big homemade meals for anybody who would eat. She also enjoyed working in her yard, feeding her hummingbirds, quilting and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Jr.; parents, Elmer O. Haley and Nellie Wyatt Haley; brother, Elmer Raimond Haley; sister, Naomi Haley Burk; and great grandson, Gattlin Isgitt.
