Spring has arrived. I don’t think any of us were sad to see winter retire for another year!!

However, with Spring came pollen, (Achoo!) allergies and the “sniffles” for those of us who suffer from the yellow powder that covers the ground, our vehicles and floats through the air.

Funeral services honoring the life of Muriel Marie Royal were held April 6 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel of Many with Dr. Terry Horowitz officiating. She was born on January 17, 1930 to John Brown Mahaffey and Susan Ethel Anderson Mahaffey. She entered into rest on April 4, 2018 in Many at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quinton Royal; brothers, J.C. Mahaffey, C.E. Mahaffey, and Cecil Mahaffey; and sisters, Eula Vee Cox, Imozelle Burris, and Lurlene Gabler.

Mary Henderson

Funeral services honoring the life of Mary Teresa Henderson were held April 4 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Burial follow in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Noble/Ebarb community. She was born on April 10, 1931 in Ebarb to Beto Castillo and Lucy Procell. She entered into rest on March 30, 2018 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents and her spouse, Olin Dean Henderson.

Nelda Ashby

Graveside services honoring the life of Nelda Jean Ashby were held April 7 at Hosston Cemetery in Hosston. She was born on July 28, 1943 in San Diego, California to James Virgil Manning II and Frances Dodson Manning. She entered into rest on April 2, 2018 in Shreveport at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Francis Kenneth Ashby; and brother, James Virgil Manning III. She is survived by her sons, John R. Ashby, Sr. of Bossier City and Kevin W. Ashby and wife, Alisha, of Lake Charles; daughter, Elizabeth Harris and husband, Bill, of Noble; sisters, Virginia McLendon and husband, Lee, of San Antonio, Texas and Emma Dennis and husband, Jerry, of New Mexico; brother, John Manning and wife, Jeanette, of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Active Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Ida Arabie

Ida May Arabie of Fisher, was born on December 16, 1929, in Alamosa, Colorado to Lee Sheek and May Jaynes. She passed away on Thurday, March 29, 2018, in Alexandria, Louisiana at the age of 88. Ida was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was baptized in 1941 and served faithfully for 77 years. Funeral services were held April 7 at the Kingdom Hall in Ball. Ed Quintana officiated. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Arabie; parents; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Grady and Joyce Musquiz; sisters, Barbara McNeely, Phyllis Jackson, Thetis Souza and Donna Griffin; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Vivian Brevelle

Funeral services for Vivian Marie Brevelle, 62, of Many were held April 5 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Lynn Lawrence and Bill Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Miller Cemetery. She was born on Tuesday, August 9, 1955 in Zwolle, and passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Willmer Miller and Dorothy Faye Richards Miller; grandson, Justin Brevelle; great granddaughter, Kayla Lewis; and sister, Glenda Mary Miller. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Brevelle of Many; sons, Brian “Miller” Brevelle and wife, Arlinda, of Converse and Daniel Brevelle of Many; sisters, Martha Dyess of Many, Linda Thibodeaux of Many, Willmer Fay Self of Coushatta, Pamela Jean Pat Phia-Paul of Houston, Texas, and Beatrice Lewis of Pleasant Hill; brother, Jerry Buddy Miller of Florien; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Brian Vines

Funeral services for Brian Keith Vines, 53, of Zwolle were held April 9 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cyle Clayton officiating. Burial followed in the Sardis Cemetery. He was born on Tuesday, December 29, 1964 in Many, and passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 in Bossier City. He was preceded in death by his father, Glyn D Vines. He is survived by his wife, Diana Vines of Zwolle; step-daughters, Brandi Rowland of Tacoma, Washington and Taylor Rogers of Zwolle; mother, Alice Laverne Vines of Zwolle; brothers, David Vines of Chicago, Illinois and Jason Vines and wife, Lori, of Noble; step-grandchildren, Santos Rangel, Daviney Rangel, Diana “Baby D” Rangel and Kiya Rowland; aunt, Glenda Vines of Shreveport; nieces, Ashtyn Vines, Cierra Vines and Isabella Vines; nephew, Jackson Simpson; along with a host of friends. The Rev. Wilton Anthony inducted into Sabine Hall of Fame as 21st recipient

The largest Sabine Hall of Fame banquet, hosted at The Life Church on Tuesday night, March 27, celebrated the induction of the Rev. Wilton D. Anthony, pastor of Siloam Baptist Church. The Rev. Anthony, who is more commonly known as Brother Tony, us the 21st Sabine citizen to be awarded the prestigious honor. A bronze plaque will now hang in the lobby of the Sabine Parish Courthouse.

The Sabine Hall of Fame was founded in 1998 by Pete Abington and Robert Gentry. Other founding Board members, who still serve, include Nell Britner Joe Salter and William Ruffin. Rounding out the Board of Directors are Donna Smith Ammons, Sheriff Ronny Richardson, Kenneth Ammons, and three new members this year, Lauren Moore, Rod Davis and Martha Henderson.

Sheriff’s Dept. solves numerous burglaries

After an extensive investigation, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested three people on March 28 that are allegedly involved in several recent residential burglaries. Deputies were able to recover numerous stolen items, including several firearms.

Bobby D. Burnette III, 22, and Brandi D. Hall, 19, both of Many, were arrested for 13 counts of theft of a firearm, simple burglary, and simple criminal damage to property. Burnette was also arrested for resisting an officer. Garet J. Serigny, 18, of Golden Meadow, was arrested for 13 counts of accessory after the fact of theft of firearms. Additional charges are pending.

Early voting dates announced

The early voting dates for the April 28. 2018 election will be held April 14 thru April 28, and be closed Sunday April 15. The hours for early voting will be 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day.

The April 28 election is for Parishwide School District Proposition (Tax Continuation, Pleasant Hill School District #42 Proposition (Tax Continuation), Zwolle School District #61 Proposition (Bond) and Sales Tax District #2 Proposition (Sales Tax Renewal).
