Winifred Miller, 84, of Florien passed away March 24, 2016. Services were held under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home at Little Flock Baptist Church in Many on March 28. Burial followed in Little Flock Cemetery in Many.

Justin LaRoux

Funeral services honoring the life of Justin LaRoux, 33, were held March 24 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Timothy Hurd officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s in Zwolle. Justin “Big Boy” LaRoux was born on June 29, 1982 in Shreveport to Patsy Martinez and Martin LaRoux and passed away on March 22, 2016 with his mother by his side. He loved the outdoors. He loved being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. Proceeding him in death were his grandparents, J.V Martinez and Tyne and Martha LaRoux and godfather, Lynn Martinez. He is survived by his mother, Patsy Martinez and his father, Martin LaRoux; grandmother, Josephine Remedies Martinez; big brother, Waylon LaRoux and wife Darla LaRoux and little brother, Lathan Sepeda and wife, Jasmine; nieces, Gracie Jo and Paris and nephews, Quistan, Isaac and Bryson. Pinkye Simpson Mitchell

Funeral services for Pinkye Simpson Mitchell, 101, of Natchitoches were Wednesday, March 16 at Westside Baptist Church in Natchitoches with the Reverends Bill Hudson and Steve McAlister officiating. Interment followed at the Fort Jesup Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell was born April 3, 1914, to Hugh and Amanda Simpson in Sabine Parish, and went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Many until she moved to Natchitoches in 1995 at which time she became a member of Westside Baptist Church. She attended Louisiana State Normal College where she earned a Professional Elementary Certificate in 1933. She taught school for four years at Old   Alliance High School in Sabine Parish. After marriage and having her children, she worked for the State Welfare Department from 1949 until she retired in 1973. She loved her family dearly, and was loved by all who knew her.

Benjamin C. Isgitt

Funeral services for Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Jr., 87, of Belmont, were held on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at Union Baptist Church in Belmont with the Reverends Glen Howard and Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Belmont Cemetery. Visitation began on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Union Baptist Church in Belmont. Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Jr. was born on Friday, April 06, 1928 in Sabine Parish, LA. He passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Desoto Regional Medical Center in Mansfield. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Belmont and worked as a mechanic for Willamette Industries for over 47 years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for Belmont for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Sr., and Beulah Corley Isgitt. He was one of 15 brothers and sisters.

Billy Ray Scroggins

Funeral services for Billy Ray Scroggins were held on Monday, March 21 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with the Rev. Matthew Pagels officiating. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. Billy Scroggins, 76 years of age, passed away March 16, 2016. Billy was born July 23, 1939 in Natchitoches. He was a lifelong resident of Natchitoches and barbered in town for almost 60 years. He loved music, cutting hair all week, and playing the drums on the weekends was his specialty. He enjoyed watching all the old television shows, such as Andy Griffith and Petticoat Junction, and enjoyed listening to the Doo Wop music of his era. He inspired those around him to be better than they were, and lived a primarily worry free life. He loved reading his Bible and talking to the Lord often, and always wore a smile. He leaves behind many friends at the Courtyard of Natchitoches who loved him and treated him as family. He will be missed.

Doris Haire

Funeral services for Doris Haire were held on Thursday, March 17 in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield. Officiating was the Rev. Charles Clark. Interment followed at Cassell Cemetery in Converse. Mrs. Haire was born on November 6, 1929, in Converse to William Melvin and Lily Pearl Bennett, who preceded her in death. She passed away on March 12, 2016, at Southern Hills Health Care in Shreveport. She graduated from Converse High School where she played softball and excelled as a pitcher. She enjoyed fishing, reading, and riding country roads. She loved going out to eat, especially for catfish. Mrs. Haire is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Haire; sister, Annie Ruth Bennett; son, Larry Clifford Golden; son-in-law, Lyndon Zacheis; granddaughter, Patsy Warschak, and greatgranddaughter, Keara Litton.

Bobbie Cochran

Bobbie Cochran was born August 28, 1927 in Monroe to loving parents James Lloyd and Beulah Marie (Terrell) Conditt. The family later moved to Baton Rouge and Bobbie graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1944. She married T. H. Cochran, the couple had three children and made their home in Shreveport. Bobbie joined her Creator in heaven after serving others for nearly 89 years. Bobbie was an antique collector and an avid gardener. Her specialty was growing azaleas and she transformed every place she ever lived into a true garden paradise. She took great pleasure in watching birds and she had a lifelong love of animals. Bobbie worked at Centenary College for many years and was loved and respected by everyone. She formed wonderful friendships later in life with her neighbors at The Oaks of Louisiana. Bobbie had a kind heart, was fiercely independent and lived her whole life putting the needs of others before her own. Bobbie is survived by her son, Thomas H.

Helen Leggett

Funeral services honoring the life of Helen Leggett, 84, were held on Friday, March 18 at Midway Baptist Church in Converse with the Rev. Clinton Alford officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Converse. The family received friends at Midway Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 16 until the funeral. Helen Leggett was born in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, to James and Annie  Methvin and passed away with her family by her side. Preceeding her in death were her husband, Tommy Leggett; parents, James and Annie; sister, Carolyn Jones; brother, Marvin Methvin; sons, Alex and Jerry Leggett; and daughter, Lavern Leggett. Those left behind to cherish his memory are her Daughters, Helen Diane Brown and husband, Harvey, and Carol Jean Remedies; son, Tommy  (Buster)Leggett and wife, Laura, and Carlton Leggett; sisters, Jessie Wiggins, Jimmie Ann McIlwain, and Sarah Butler; brothers, James A. Methvin Jr. and Guy Methvin; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Funeral services honoring the life of Linda Sistrunk, 70, were held on Sunday, March 20 at Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Marthaville with the Rev. Dean Johnson officiating. Burial followed at  Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Linda was born in Converse to Herbert and Pearl Willis Williams and passed away on March 17, 2016, in Pleasant Hill. Preceding Linda in death are her parents Herbert and Pearl Willis Williams. Those left behind to cherish her memory is her devoted and caring husband of 50 years, James Sistrunk; son, Greg Sistrunk; daughter, Sonya Harris and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Lauren Sistrunk, Megan Sistrunk, Landry Sistrunk, Jakota Harris, and Skylie Harris; step-grandchild, Madison Sepulvado and husband, Nick; and step-great grandchildren, Titan and Rexliegh Sepulvado. Those honoring the life as pallbearers were Jeff  Harris, JakotaHarris, Paul Patton, Doyle Stockton, Joe Hardee, Jeff Ezernack, Mike Goings, and Clarence Gewin. Honorary Pallbearers were J.W.

George W. “Jack” Rivers

George W. “Jack” Rivers, Jr., 89, of Pleasant hill rejoined his maker on March 6, 2016 at 6:30 a.m. at his home as a glorious sun rose. He was surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service was held on March 12 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many with Bro. Johnathon McManus officiating, George was born on July 6, 1926 in Baytown, Texas, to George W. Rivers, Sr. (deceased) and Sallie Mae Holder Rivers (deceased) and shared his young life in both Zwolle and Baytown, Texas. Being a child of the depression era, his values were simple and easy to live by: Family, Church, Country, Education and Hard work. Living by these rules he was quite an accomplished man. Serving his country during WWII and eventually retiring in 1964 from the United States Navy, he suffered many a loss in his lifetime including the death of his wife, eldest son and then his father, but refused to allow anything to keep him down.
