Mary Remedies

Funeral Services for Mary Elizabeth Remedies, 69, of Zwolle were held March 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr. Earl Provenza and Father Tim Hurd officiating. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Remedies was born on Wednesday, November 6, 1946 in Converse. She passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home in Zwolle after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary “Maggie” Rivers and brother, Philip Paul Rivers. She is survived by her husband, Benny Remedies of Zwolle; son, Dale Remedies and wife, Juanita, of Zwolle; brothers, Wilbert Rivers of Zwolle, Wilford Rivers and Gayla of Zwolle, Frankie Rivers and Melanie of Shreveport, and Charles Lopez and wife, Dora, of Zwolle; grandchildren, Tara Cartinez and husband, Jay, of Zwolle, Dana Sepulvado and husband, Lance, of Noble, Colton Remedies of Zwolle, A.J.

Lilianne Hays

Lilianne Faith Monique Hays, 16, of Ford High School in Quintan went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2015. She was born on September 25, 1999 in Dallas, Texas to Ernest and Brandy Hays. Lilianne was extremely devoted to her Lord and Savior, and the Quest church. She could light up a room with her smile. She was always so happy and bubbly. Lilianna was in acapella choir at her school and she loved cosmetology and fashion design. Lilianna is survived by her parents, Ernest and Brandy Hays; brothers, Jonathan Hays and Billy Dodson; sister, Savannah Hays; nephew, Bentley Dodson; grandmother, Shirley Evans and many aunts, uncles, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louise and Alvin Meshell. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at the Quest Church in Royse City, Texas. Pastor Jim Dunn presided.

Joe Kirk

Funeral services for Joe Irvin Kirk, 75, of Florien were held March 26 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathon Bost officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Joe Irvin Kirk was born on Friday, October 11, 1940 in Sands Springs, Oklahoma. He passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Davis Kirk and Laverna Belle Kirk; son, Jonathan David Kirk; sisters, Jean Morrison and Evelyn Sue Kirk; brother, Jerry Kirk, Billy Ray Kirk and brother-in-law, Norman Terrell. Joe graduated from Westlake High School, McNeese State University, and Navel Office Candidate School in New Port, Rhode Island. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from McNeese State University. Joe was also the company Vice President at U.S. F & G Co. He enjoyed flying, scuba diving, hunting, softball, baseball, and umpiring high school softball and baseball games.

Funeral services for Becky Byles McLendon, 48, of Many were held on March 22 at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Cyle Clayton officiating. Burial followed in the Ft Jessup Cemetery. Rebecca Byles McLendon passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016. Becky was born to Johnny Byles and Brenda Self Nash on March 12, 1968. On November 10, 1990, Becky married Keith McLendon who still survives. Also surviving Becky is her mother, Brenda Self Nash and stepfather, Freddie Nash of Belmont; brothers, Mike Byles and wife, Cindy, of Many, Eddie Byles and wife, Lisa, of Florien and sister, DaJuana Simpson and husband, Joey, of Belmont. Becky has several nephews and nieces and great nieces along with many other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Johnny Byles; paternal grandparents, Louis and Dorothy Byles and maternal grandparents, William Henry Self Sr. and Ora Lee Stephens Self.

Funeral services for George John Carlson, 88, of Robeline were held March 23 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sherrill Stiles officiating. Burial followed in the Ft. Jessup Cemetery. George John Carlson was born on Monday, August 1, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Sabine Retirement and Rehab in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Carlson and Elsie Carlson, and his brother, Dick Carlson. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Smith Carlson of Robeline; daughters, Sandee Razminas of Plano, Texas, Candee Carlson of Plano, Texas, and Joni Frazier of Marshall, Texas; son, Todd Carlson of Plano, Texas and John Parish, Jr. of Robeline; sister, Kaye Chapman; two grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Ronald Oxley

Funeral service for Ronald K. Oxley was held March 24 in the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Interment followed at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery near Toledo Town. Ronald Oxley, affectionately known as Moose to his friends, passed away at the age of 63 on Saturday, March 19, 2016. He was born August 16, 1952 in Shreveport to Truman Luther Oxley and Bessie Shaw Oxley. Ronnie was a 1970 graduate of Woodlawn High School and attended LSU for a short period. He joined the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War. His working career consisted of being an over the road truck driver. He always had a free spirit and enjoyed traveling either by semis or his motorcycle. He also enjoyed being outdoors and hiking. A truly happy person, he always had a cheerful attitude in life, which made him a pleasure to be around. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and uncle.

Winifred Miller, 84, of Florien passed away March 24, 2016. Services were held under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home at Little Flock Baptist Church in Many on March 28. Burial followed in Little Flock Cemetery in Many.

Justin LaRoux

Funeral services honoring the life of Justin LaRoux, 33, were held March 24 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Timothy Hurd officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s in Zwolle. Justin “Big Boy” LaRoux was born on June 29, 1982 in Shreveport to Patsy Martinez and Martin LaRoux and passed away on March 22, 2016 with his mother by his side. He loved the outdoors. He loved being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. Proceeding him in death were his grandparents, J.V Martinez and Tyne and Martha LaRoux and godfather, Lynn Martinez. He is survived by his mother, Patsy Martinez and his father, Martin LaRoux; grandmother, Josephine Remedies Martinez; big brother, Waylon LaRoux and wife Darla LaRoux and little brother, Lathan Sepeda and wife, Jasmine; nieces, Gracie Jo and Paris and nephews, Quistan, Isaac and Bryson. Pinkye Simpson Mitchell

Funeral services for Pinkye Simpson Mitchell, 101, of Natchitoches were Wednesday, March 16 at Westside Baptist Church in Natchitoches with the Reverends Bill Hudson and Steve McAlister officiating. Interment followed at the Fort Jesup Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell was born April 3, 1914, to Hugh and Amanda Simpson in Sabine Parish, and went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Many until she moved to Natchitoches in 1995 at which time she became a member of Westside Baptist Church. She attended Louisiana State Normal College where she earned a Professional Elementary Certificate in 1933. She taught school for four years at Old   Alliance High School in Sabine Parish. After marriage and having her children, she worked for the State Welfare Department from 1949 until she retired in 1973. She loved her family dearly, and was loved by all who knew her.

Benjamin C. Isgitt

Funeral services for Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Jr., 87, of Belmont, were held on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at Union Baptist Church in Belmont with the Reverends Glen Howard and Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Belmont Cemetery. Visitation began on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Union Baptist Church in Belmont. Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Jr. was born on Friday, April 06, 1928 in Sabine Parish, LA. He passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Desoto Regional Medical Center in Mansfield. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Belmont and worked as a mechanic for Willamette Industries for over 47 years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for Belmont for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Columbus Isgitt, Sr., and Beulah Corley Isgitt. He was one of 15 brothers and sisters.
