Movies in Many to present classic “The Wizard of Oz”

“The Wizard of Oz,” one of the most beloved movies in the history of moviemaking, will show at the Many Community Center on March 21 at 7 p.m.Although shown on televi-sion, viewing this classic movie on a huge 32-foot theatre screen with 10 superior surround-sound speakers is a totally dif-ferent experience. Mayor Ken Freeman is hopeful movie-goers will come to see “The Wizard of Oz,” and bring their children, grandchildren and entire fami-lies to enjoy the theatre version.

Former Tiger Garrett Thomas named 2015 Accomplishment Award winner

ThomasThe Sabine Hall of Fame is pleased to announce Garrett Thomas, a former Many High Tiger football player, as the Ac-complishment Award winner for 2015. Thomas, a senior at Many High for the first semester, signed with the University of Texas at Austin before mid-term and graduated a semester early with a 4.27 grade point average and a 27 on the ACT, scoring as well or better than 93 % of se-niors in the state of Louisiana.

Dianne Lampman retires…again

One such person is Di-anne Lampman, who with Mel, her husband of 35 years, will soon be leaving the Toledo Bend area after 17 years. They will be moving back to Lafayette which is their original home.

Movies in Many to feature John Wayne in “The Quiet Man”

Movie fans can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early this year.The Many Community Cen-ter is showing “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne on Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. If you’ve nev-er been to Ireland, you can take a two-hour trip by watching “The Quiet Man” which highlights the Irish countryside and small Irish towns. As you watch the movie on the theatre’s 32-foot screen, you’ll be transported straight to Ireland.

Mitchell competes in Queen of Queens pageant

Chelsea Mitchell, Miss St. Jude Fall Fest, had a great experience at the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals annual convention and Queen of Queens Pageant held recently. Chelsea met other queens from all over the state and learned about their fairs and festivals. She also promoted her own festival and invited all of these girls to attend.

Welcome to Many signs get a new addition

On Thursday Feb. 26 Mayor Freeman presented Jess Curtis with the new addition to the Many city limit signs to be placed in all the entrances of Many. The new additions let the visitors know they have made into the town of the Class 2A state champions who had the best season in the 70 years of playing football in the state.  Not only is there a sign placed on every entrance, City Hall houses one and there is one in the coach’s offce.

Cleco shareholders support merger

Cleco announced on Feb. 26 that its shareholders ap-proved the adoption of the previously announced merg-er agreement pursuant to which Cleco will be acquired by a North American investor group led by Macquarie Infra-structure and Real Assets and by British Columbia Invest-ment Corporation.During a special meeting of shareholders, investors vot-ed on merger-related propos-als, which included the merger transaction and a non-binding advisory vote on merger com-pensation.

TBCAC membership drive underway

The Toledo Bend Citizens’ Advisory Committee (TBCAC) is a registered 501 (c) (4) non-prof-it organization formed in 2001. TBCAC’s mission is to educate and activate citizens on issues that affectthe quality of life in the communities surrounding Toledo Bend Reservoir.Since its inception in 2001, the Toledo Bend Citizens’ Ad-visory Committee has been a “watchdog agency” to represent citizens on issues such as the lake level of Toledo Bend Reservoir, environmental protection of this world-class fishery,economic development and the operations of the Sabine River Authorities of Texas and Louisiana. Citizens in both Louisiana and Texas have a vested interest in the welfare of Toledo Bend and the communi-ties surrounding it.

David Anthony, Ed.D. recognized as Achievement Award winner

Dr. David Anthony, who hails from Florien, walks tall in the Texas independent school districts.  He has carved out a successful career in education and is well-known in educational circles. Because of his exemplary ca-reer, leadership and communica-tion skills, he has been named the 18th recipient of the Sabine Hall of Fame’s Achievement Award for 2015.
