There are a number of different types of fish that people can catch from the banks of Cypress Bend Park. The Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) and the Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) challenge youth anglers to test their fishing pole skills while trying to land a bass, bream, catfish, white perch (crappie), turtle, and any other freshwater fish at Fish Fest. On Saturday, June 3, it was easy to spot anglers on the pier, edge of the banks, and even the beach at the eighth annual TBLA/Sabine SWCD Fish Fest.

While bank fishing the 110 youth anglers certainly face challenges, but the smiles on their faces and the thought of winning a new rod-n-reel combo outweighed the obstacles.

Pre-registered fishermen enjoyed a free day of fishing at Cypress Bend Park. The Fest was open to school age children in kindergarten through 12th grade for the school year 2016-2017. Youth from Louisiana and Texas were eligible to fish. Fishermen who catch one of the largest three fish in the categories of bass, bream, catfish, white perch (crappie), turtle, and other win a rod-n-reel combo and a medal. Fishermen provide their own fishing equipment and bait.
