Quayhagen upsets Njokuani in Legacy 42 main event

Josh Quayhagen stepped into the cage on June 26, fighting in the main event of Legacy 42 at the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles as a huge underdog. Although given almost no chance by mixed martial arts experts, who predicted he could not get out of the first round, Quayhagen prevailed. Quayhagen is currently 28-years-old and grew up in Many before moving to Leesville with his family when he started high school.

Experienced loggers teaching T.H.E.O. classes at NWLTC

The third Timber Harvesting Equipment Operator (T.H.E.O.) Training began May 26 at the Sabine Valley Campus of the Northwest La. Technical College in Many. The training is designed to teach the basics of harvesting timber with modern equipment to students interested in a career in the forestry industry, accord-ing to Laurie Morrow, campus dean.

Fort Polk spared drastic cuts

Harry Potter series continues

“Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” is the 2 p.m. matinee movie at the Many Community Center on Saturday, July 11. The movie is the sixth in a series of Harry Potter movies playing at the Many theatre. The seventh and last movie in the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.

Gay marriage legalized; no takers in Sabine

On June 26, the United States became the 21 and most populated country to legalize same-sex marriage. The decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges ruled that the denial of marriage licenses and recognition to same-sex couples violates the due process and equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution.

Brown to compete at rodeo final

Trenton Brown, son of Shane and Kayla Brown, an 11th grade homeschooled stu-dent, has earned a position in the Louisiana National High School Rodeo Team and will be traveling to Rock Springs, Wyoming, on July 12-18 to compete at the 67th annual fi-nals rodeo in the team roping competition.
