Foster rescues Dan

(Editor’s Note: The following was submitted by Ashley Foster) On July 10, my daughter Destiny and I went to the Market Basket in Zwolle. As I was pulling up I saw a dog running out of the store. It was so hot outside and he was looking for cool air, food, and water. With the help of a Market Basket employee Trenton Harvey, who also happens to be my cousin, I was able to go buy a collar and lease for him so that I could take him home with me. There is no way I could of left him there.

Mayor addressing audit problems head-on

Stories have circulated the past week regarding the town of Many and a state audit that accuses the town and police department of misuse of thousands of taxpayer dollars. State investigative auditors say the town may have overspent public funds and failed to collect money it was owed as a result of cooperative endeavor agreements with Northwestern State University. Mayor Ken Freeman has approached the problem head-on, and, along with the town council, have put measures into place that will hopefully avoid this type of thing from happening in the future.

Hodges Gardens named historic place

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing Hodges Gardens State Park as the newest addition to the National Register of Historic Places. The designation puts the State Park among a list of more than 90,000 sites nationwide and nearly 1,400 sites in Louisiana to receive the highest national award of distinction be-stowed upon historic properties.

Hendersons arrested on burglary charges

An investigation by the Pleasant Hill Police Department has yielded two more arrests.On Aug. 2, Alfred Henderson and his wife, Jessica, allegedly entered the Dollar Plus Store in Pleasant Hill by breaking the hinges from the door.

MHS Band invited to National Wind Band Festival in Chicago

The 2014-15 year for the Many High Band was a stellar one, according to Band Director Scott DeBose.“It was probably the best year we’ve had in a long time,” he noted.With almost 30 members, the band garnered a number of awards. The first honor came in January 2015. DeBose was named Band Director of the year by the District II Band Directors Association.

Back-to-School Rally distributes supplies to 275 students

The annual Sabine Parish Backto- School Rally was very successful on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Fairgrounds, according to Many Gore of the Toledo Bend Ministries. Gore and her team of committee members, including Elyda Thaxton, the Rev. Harry Babers, the Rev. Elaine Burleigh, Lisa Henderson, Virginia Burkett and Donna Smith Ammons worked to make this the best ever. They were pleased with Saturday’s results. “We distributed 275 bags of school supplies to students in grades Pre-K through high school,” she said. “We had a new routine to follow and it seemed to work out well.”

Dahlem dreams big; lands prestigious job

Growing up, Hannah Dahlem was a quiet studious child. The fourth of six children born to Jerry and Susan Dahlem, formerly of Many, Hannah was home-schooled along with her brothers and sisters, Zach, Jessica, Nathan, Rachel and Ben. On Aug. 30, she will begin a career in the business world, in a large city, hundreds of miles away from her family, who now lives in Bossier City.

Labor of love complete, Ezernack reminisces over “Mathilda”

The love affair between a person and their car, whether Dodge, Chevy, or any other brand in between is immense, but for Cindy Ezernack of Zwolle, the love between her and a Ford Mustang means something much more meaningful. The story begins when Ezernack was a young high school student. Through a number of unfortunate familial events, she was living with her grandmother and working during a summer break.

Investigations yield felony theft, burglary arrests

On July 11, Pleasant Hill Police Officer Stuart Anthony received a call reporting a burglary on Texas Street in Pleasant Hill. Also responding was Police Chief Ray Williams. Upon arrival, the owner stated that as he returned home, he noticed a window air conditioning unit moved and items missing from the residence. A witness provided information to officers and two suspects were quickly arrested. The investigation also revealed that another residence ad been burglarized in the same area.
