Trump stuns U.S. in unbelievable upset; Campbell, Kennedy in Senate runoff

Donald Trump was named president-elect of the United States of America on November 9 after one of the closest elections in decades. Votes were tallied into the early hours of the morning following Election Day on November 8, which left Republican nominee Trump triumphant with 289 electoral votes to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s 218, with the states of Minnesota, Michigan, and New Hampshire still undecided.

Celebrity waiter/waitress event funds Relay for Life

The Sabine Parish Relay for Life Committee, headed by Kayla Hataway, sponsored a Celebrity Waiter/Waitress dinner at the Family Life Center of Many’s First United Methodist Church on Thursday night, November 10 beginning at 6 p.m. Eight tables of eight to 10 citizens paid $30 per person to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

Christmas on Main to follow annual parade

The biggest crowd in downtown Many is expected to participate in the Second Annual Christmas on Main event, following the Many Christmas Parade on Friday night, December 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Main Street in Many will be glowing with luminaries, as citizens and guests stroll the street lined with arts and crafts, food booths and music-makers.

Donald Trump was named president-elect of the United States of America on November 9 after one of the closest elections in decades.

Votes were tallied into the early hours of the morning following Election Day on November 8, which left Republican nominee Trump triumphant with 289 electoral votes to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s 218, with the states of Minnesota, Michigan, and New Hampshire still undecided.

The election was so stunning because every major poll placed Clinton as the eventual nominee in a landslide, which was never to materialize, even though at the time of this article’s creation she was ahead in the popular vote 59,333,856 votes, or 47.7 percent, to Trump’s 59,166,034, or 47.5 percent.

New business spurs Converse growth

With the October 29 opening of its newest business, the small town of Converse in northern Sabine Parish is showing extreme growth. The brainchild of Tallion Woodward, who opened Woodward’s Taxidermy earlier this year, Converse Meats is Sabine Parish’s only full-service game processing plant.

Burketts to serve as Grand Marshals in Christmas Parade

Two highly respected citizens of Many, longtime Sabine Parish District Attorney Don Burkett and his lovely wife, Virginia, who shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, have been named as grand marshals of Many’s Christmas Parade. “A Children’s Christmas” is the theme for the Friday, December 9 parade, which will kick off at 4 p.m., according to Christmas Parade Committee Chairman Gay Corley.

Veterans Day observances planned

Veterans Day is fast approaching. Celebrations and ceremonies that will honor our veterans are planned around Sabine Parish. Sabine Parish men and women have always been patriotic and quick to serve during war times. They served during World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the ongoing wars in the Middle East. This is the story of two men who are representative of the many men and women from Sabine Parish who answered the call to duty.

Converse plans Christmas extravaganza

Converse will hold their fifth annual Converse Country Christmas Festival on Saturday, November 26 from 8 a.m. until after dark. The festival begins with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. with proceeds going to the Converse Fire Station. At 9 a.m. till there will be vendors, food, crafts, gifts, and other goodies on sale, while at 11 a.m. the parade will begin from the back of Converse School.
