Photos from the Past: Three couples in Fisher

This photo of three couples in the Fisher area was made in the 1930s or 1940s. The photo’s owner, Nell Caudill, named two of the couples. The first “Hamp” Eason and his wife, JoElla. The second couple is her grandparents, Marion Columbus “Lum” Eason Sr. and his wife, Laura. The third couple in the center of the photo is unknown, and Caudill hopes someone will know who it is. Wendt choses Toledo Bend as his fishing spot for 43 years

Eighty-four year old Donald Wendt recently caught a 9.64 lb. bass on his 43rd annual trip from Kentucky to Toledo Bend.
Toledo Bend is spitting out lots of true fish stories this season with over 70 lunkers recorded in the Toledo Bend Lake Association’s Lunker Bass program and with the record catch George Herr made in November of five fish weighing in at 40.45 lbs.

Youth register for fishing tournament at Cypress

ASince the year it began, Fish Fest has been an exciting and challenging tournament for youth fishermen as they are ready to compete for top honors at the Toledo Bend Lake Association/Sa-bine Soil and Water Conservation Dis-trict Fish Fest. Both groups have spent the last year preparing for the sixth annual tour-nament on Toledo Bend Lake at the Sabine River Authority’s Cypress Bend Park. All fishermen will be easily identified in their TBLA/Sabine SWCD t-shirt on Saturday, June 6, 2015.

Many Book Club hears historical review

Five members of the Many Book Club met at the Sabine Par-ish Library Tuesday night, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. Attending were Lois Barnhill, Shirley Lee, Donna Smith Ammons, Lucille DeWitt and hostess, Patsy Knippers.Following the recitation of the Club Collect and the calling of the roll, the members settled back with a cup of coffee and listened as Lu-cille DeWitt reviewed Ken Follett’s century trilogy, which include the books, Fall of Giants, Winter of the World and Edge of Eternity.

Sabine’s 4-H selects focus for 2015-16

The Sabine Parish 4-H Coun-cil Advisory recently met and se-lected the focus for the upcoming 2015-16 year, according to Nan Arthur, 4-H agent.School-wide focus will be “Healthy Living”, which will be worked on during all of the 4-H Club meetings.

Big cat tracks found in Zwolle

Cougars go by many names: mountain lions, pumas, catamounts, even the Florida panthers are considered cougars. This big cat once roamed most of North America but due to bounties being placed on the animal for the protection of livestock cougars have slowly died out.

Toledo Center celebrates Mardi Gras

Decorations, food and music were representative of the Mardi Gras celebration at the Toledo Center, Sabine Council on Aging last month. There was plenty of music, good food and frivolity, as members and guests celebrated the famous Louisiana holiday.

Woodsmen help with medical expenses

Fay McDonald, Modern Woodsmen of America representative, presented Sherman “Trey” Page III of Converse a check for $5,000. A matching funds barbecue lunch was held on Feb. 1 to assist Page with medical expenses incurred from an automo-bile accident.

Megan is the granddaughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Martin Ebarb and Mrs. Rebecca Procell and the late Mr. Gerald Procell all of Zwolle.
