Mothershed, Knippers to wed

Mrs. Lessie Taylor Knippers of Many is please to announce the engagement of her daughter, Amanda Elizabeth, to Jordan Ryan Mothershed, son of Mr. Kevin and Mrs. Marla Jordan of DeQuincy. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Robert L. Knippers and the granddaughter of the late Mr. Norman and Mrs. Carolyn Sandel Knippers and Mr. Horace and Mrs. Mary Johnson Taylor of West Monroe.

Inez Dowden turns 102

Called “Big” Inez by many relatives because of another family member with the same name, it doesn’t make much sense to the non-related observer because she is such a physically tiny woman. Inez West Dowden will celebrate her 102nd birthday with family and friends this Friday at the Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Home in Many, where she has lived the past two years. Asked why she thought she had lived so long, Mrs. Dowden replied, “Only the Lord knows,” and she gives Him all the credit for her long life. She has been a member of Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church in Hornbeck for the better part of a century. It is surprising that a woman of her age doesn’t need glasses, but Inez can read without any problem though she is mighty deaf, and visitors usually have to write out any questions they have for her.

Korb gets first deer

Victor Korb, the nine-year-old son of Fred and Renee Korb, recently took his first deer while hunting with his grandfather, Mike Ferguson, in the Mansfield area. Victor is from the Many area and attends Negreet school.

Superior Hospice honors breast cancer survivors

Superior Hospice proudly sponsored an event to honor breast cancer survivors and the many affected by the disease. The event was held at Desoto Retirement with residents and staff from MNC, SRRC, and TRRC in attendance. Live entertainment was provided, and attendees dined on finger foods, cake, and punch.

Williams reunion held Pearlie Fox-Robinson

The family reunion of the descendants of Crit and Sallie-Fox Williams was held on July 3-5 at Hodges Gardens State Park. The family enjoyed good food, fun games, and enduring fellowship. Pearlie Fox-Robinson, a Los Angeles resident and the 106-year-old sister of Williams, was the most cherished attendant.

Sabine Medical Center holds contest

On October 29, Sabine Medical Center held different contests for the staff. Each department had their own jack o lanterns to submit while others participated in the chili or gumbo cook off. Outside judges were brought in including Dan Alford, Alex Walsh of the Sabine Index, SatCom owner Marion Hall and his employees Ross McDonough and Prince Sean Johnson.

Clinton book features McFarland

Isaac McFarland, a freshman at Morehouse College, is pictured with Chelsea Clinton at her book signing in Atlanta, Georgia. McFarland is featured in Clinton’s new book entitled, “It’s Your World” for his exceptional efforts to eliminate hunger throughout the country. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Mairus McFarland of Keithville, and the grandson of Zelderia McFarland and the late Booker T. McFarland of Many.

Cub Scouts participate in “Fair Work Day
