Leone, Boswell to wed

Kevin and Dawn Leone of Many are please to announce the engagement of their son, Lance Leone, to Emily Boswell of Elizabeth. Emily is the daughter of Randy Boswell of Alexandria and Marcia Luxemburg of Elizabeth. Lance is currently pursing a degree in business administration with a minor in accounting at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Many Book Club enjoys Christmas meeting

Members of the Many Book Club enjoyed a festive evening in the Cobb Drive home of Donna Smith Ammons on Tuesday night, December 1 Guests were met at the door and welcomed into the home by the hostess, who had Christmas decorations out and a beautiful tree alit with multi-colored lights and sentimental ornaments.

Porter, Murphy inducted into history honor society

The Pi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society at Northwestern State University held its annual induction ceremony at the Cammie Henry Research Center in Watson Library. The Pi chapter was founded in 1934 and is one of the oldest organizations at Northwestern State. Dr. Charles Pellegrin, left, associate professor of history and director of the Southern Studies Institute, conducted the ceremony.

Rebel State Park to celebrate 14th Christmas lights display

Guests are invited to Rebel State Historic Site and the Louisiana Country Music Museum, during the month of December, to see over 75,000 Christmas lights and displays, hear the sounds of traditional Christmas music and visit with Santa Claus. The site will be open from 1 – 9 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday, with Christmas light display viewing from 5 – 9 p.m., December 2 –23.

The Old Sherman Tank

For many, many years as we traveled Highway 6 east through the town of Many we drove by a very historic piece of World War II history and a very historic piece of American military equipment. Located at the VFW Hall was a World War II Sherman tank. Over the years it had proudly sat where every traveler could see it and many people would stop and climb up on it as they remembered being a crew member on such a tank in World War II.

Christmas Community Choir practicing for holiday cantata

The sounds of Christmas and the story of the birth of Jesus will be included in the Christmas Community Choir’s annual cantata, to be presented on Tuesday, December 8 and Thursday, December 10 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Many. Directing this year’s presentation will be Carole Troha, choir director, who will be accompanied by Patsy McCormick, and a small chamber orchestra.

Harris, Maxie named Mr., Miss PHHS

Pleasant Hill High School is proud to announce their 2015-2016 Mr. and Miss Pleasant Hill High School. Jakota Harris and Yasmine Maxie, both seniors at PHHS, have been named to the prestigious honor of Mr. and Miss PHHS. Harris is the 17-year-old son of Jeff and Sonya Harris of Pleasant Hill. While enrolled at Pleasant Hill, he has been actively involved in many clubs and extracurricular activities including FFA, FCA, BETA, 4-H, SADD, and is currently a class officer.
