Anniversary celebrated

Morgan and Eula Burns moved their family from New Orleans to Anacoco in 1959, later on they made their final move to Negreet where their daughter Wanda Sue better know as Sue, would graduate from school. Eula Burns told Sue one day that she had someone that she wanted her to meet. Mrs. Burns already thought very highly of this young man, his name was Truette and he worked for Mr. Doug Curtis at the Curtis Grocery in Many.

Louisiana team competes at National 4-H Forestry Invitational

Louisiana was one of 17 states that competed in the 37th annual National 4-H Forestry Invitational from Sunday, July 31, through Thursday, August 4. Teams from Arkansas, Tennessee, and Florida placed first, second, and third respectively. Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin were also represented at this year’s Invitational. The invitational was held at West Virginia University Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Camp and Conference Center near Weston, West Virginia.

Toledo Retirement, Rehabilitation honors Zwolle PD

The residents and staff of Toledo Retirement and Rehabilitation in Zwolle were proud to show theirsupport to the dedicated Zwolle Police Department. As a show of appreciation on July 29, the center provided the police officers and department staff with fish plates for lunch. Presenting the police with their lunches and an appreciation card is resident Eldon “Buck” Remedies.

Anderson shines as “Gypsy” at Shreveport Little Theatre

“Gypsy”, the great American musical, came to the stage in Shreveport during the month of July at the Shreveport Little Theatre. Tessa Anderson, daughter of Mike and Debbie Anderson of Florien, is a college student at Centenary College, where she is a sophomore theatre major and member of the Centenary Choir. A Dean’s list honoree, she is also a talented actress.

Marthaville news

The Marthaville Heritage Society’s Good Ole Days Festival Committee, Parade Chairperson Karen Rawls and Festival Chairperson Fuzzy Hennigan, is honored to announce that Mr. Tucker Roe, is the 24th Annual Good Ole Days Grand Marshal. Tucker is a life long resident of Marthaville and comes from a very long heritage of Marthaville people. The members of his Roe family were part of the early settlers of Marthaville in the late 1800›s. His Great, Great, Grand Parents settled in the area just North and East of the town of Marthaville, that was founded in 1851.

Methodist VBS visits Hometown Nazareth

Eight tents were situated in the center of the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church of Many for this year’s Hometown Nazareth Vacation Bible School. Two more tents, Mary’s and the Synagogue School, were located elsewhere in the facility. Children and adults were placed in tribes, with each Tribe Leader and Assistant leading their group through the schedules each evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8p.m. All were fed a snack supper.

Sabine DAR names Good Citizens

Sabine Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution presented DAR Good Citizen certificates and pins to graduating seniors from each of the parish schools. The students were recognized at the December 2015 Sabine Parish School Board meeting and the parish winner announced.

Marthaville news

It all started back on August 11, 1965 when Eloyce Brown of Pleasant Hill met Gordon Durr of Marthaville, they were both attending the Spring Ridge Methodist Camp. They both fell in love and on July 2, 1966, they were married. Things were a lot different back then than what they are now, after they were married they moved into the old Darden Hotel and rented it from the late Luther Eason, the hotel still stands in downtown Marthaville.

Council on Aging holds open house

On June 26, the Sabine Parish Council on Aging held an open house at their Legacy Building in Many. The event featured a patriotic theme and food such as hot dogs, chips, popcorn, and cupcakes were served to those in attendance. The membership drive, which closes on Thursday, July 14 has yielded over 135 new members. There have also been a total of 75 fans and $110 in donations during the fan drive.
