Santa visited the Sunshine Kids

Santa visited the Sunshine Kids Learning Center at the First United Methodist Church in Many. The students were able to wear their pajamas, eat breakfast and watched The Polar Express, This little doll is three year old Stella McElwee and she told Santa that all she wants for Christmas is the Pie in the Face game. Proud parents are Archie and Melissa McElwee of Many.

Many Jr. High 4-H Toy Drive

Many Jr. High 4-H participated in the Cody Anthony Toy Drive. Students collected various toys to give for all ages. The toy drive committee members in 7th grade were Mallory Cunningham, Zanna Simmons, Neely Fluitt, Jayla Perry, Adyen Brown and Emma Campbell. The toy drive committee members for 8th grade were Caleb Pilkington, Raygan Ray, Jada Lee, Raelynn Hundley, Billy Estrada and Faith Holcomb. 4-H members would like to thank everyone that help give to this wonderful cause.

The story of Brandon and Geraldine Cotton

The year was 1946, Brandon Cotton had finally set foot back home after he completed his duty in the Navy during World War II. He arrived by train and his final stop was at the Robeline Train Station, as he was getting off the train, he noticed Geraldine Larkin, who was there at the train station to pick up her graduation invitations.

Mackie Johnson celebrates 94th birthday

Friday November 25, 2016 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Shreveport, marked the 94th birthday celebration of Mackie Johnson. The theme of the night was “Pearls of Wisdom.” Many were in attendance to celebrate Mrs. Johnson’s commitment to her faith, her family and her community. Dressed in an elegant gold gown and full of energy and excitement, Mrs. Johnson exhibited the fact that youth is not a time of life, but a state of mind. She had a front row seat as family members and close friends shared fond memories and hardy laughs.

I am so sorry about no news last week, but I did try to send it in and I guess my news is still floating around somewhere in the clouds because it sure has not landed, so now I am running a week behind but that is alright because never late than never. I wanted to tell our readers about the Veterans day program I attended at our Marthaville Elem/Jr. High School that took place in our school gym, this was just too good to pass up. It started out by the parade of the Veterans all walking in and taking their seat, they were the Honorees of this program.

Remembering Pearl Harbor on its 75 anniversary

On Sunday morning December 7, 1941 the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet was moored in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After a week of training at sea, there were very few early risers that morning as a gentle breeze blew across the beaches of Honolulu. In just a few short hours, they would be awakened to war. Sitting at anchor in “Battleship Row” were seven giant vessels of the fleet, the battleships California, Maryland, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia, Arizona, and Nevada. Along with the battleships, a total of 94 vessels were at anchor in Pearl Harbor that tranquil morning. All these ships were gathered in this anchorage which is less than three square miles in size.

AgCenter offers tips for Christmas trees

It’s time to think about choosing this year’s Christmas tree. But before you do, the LSU AgCenter suggests a few things to consider. First, measure the area where you will place the tree to make sure you don’t buy a tree that’s too large. LSU AgCenter forestry specialist Niels de Hoop recommends making sure you get the freshest tree you can. As faculty advisor in the School of Renewable Natural Resources, he oversees selling Christmas trees by the Society of American Foresters student chapter at LSU.
