30th annual Fisher Sawmill Days Pageant scheduled for May 3

The 30th annual Fisher Sawmill Days Pageant has been slated for Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Opera House in Fisher, according to Pageant  Director Tonia Fishback Self. Entry fee is $50, which includes beauty and photogenic. The deadline for entries is April 19 at 8 p.m.

Many Lions Club, MHS Leo Club tests eyesight of local children

A child from the Sunshine Kids at the First United Methodist Church’s Early Learning Center is shown getting his eyes tested by a Leo Club member from Many High. Lion Randy Walsworth, standing, watches closely as Lion Mary Lee, left, reads testing information.

The tests show if there is a problem with the child’s eyesight and allows the screeners to refer the child to an eye doctor in order to correct the problem before they enter school. By taking a photo of the child’s eyes with a special camera, it can be determined if the child has amblyopia, commonly referred to as Lazy Eye, or any other eye diseases. By monitoring how the child’s eyes react to light, testers are able to determine in these children with early detection and appropriate care.

The Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) will unveil its annual Bass Unlimited (BU) Poster during the Unveiling Gala and Auction at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, in the Conference Center at Wildwood Resort on beautiful Toledo Bend Lake. The Unveiling Gala is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Toledo Bend Lake Association is a non-profit organization that sponsors the Annual Bass Unlimited Banquet and Auction as its major fundraising project to support and benefit Toledo Bend Lake.

65th wedding anniversary

Preston and Charlene Barr, of Many, will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary with a 1 p.m. luncheon at their home
in Many on Saturday, March 15. The couple, who are members of Aimwell Baptist Church, was married on March 12, 1949,  and has lived in Many for the past 25 years. They are the parents of four children and they have eight grandchildren

Eight members of the Many Book Club met on a rainy Tuesday night, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Maple Street home of Shirley Lee. Members were served coffee and conversed as others arrived. The meeting was called to order by Sarah House, vicepresident, in the absence of President Melanie Schweiger
