City Bank donates to Many PD

The annual Child Safety, Bullying and Drug Education Program is in full swing. Each year the Many Police Department selects material to educate children and adults on how to stay safe and drug free. Jamie Vincent of City Bank presents Many Chief of Police Roger Freeman a donation from City Bank to help defer the cost of the material.

Sabine Urgent Care celebrates Chamber membership, customers

Sabine Urgent Care celebrated Customer Appreciation Day and becoming a member of the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce on Labor Day, Monday, September 4 at their Highland Drive location. From 12 noon to 2 p.m., free cups of Marble Slab ice cream was given away.

The local business has been in operation for a year, but since they recently joined the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce, a ribbon-cutting was held.

Fort Jesup Society C.A.R. Activities

Fort Jesup members, Robert Lombardino, Leah Swanstrom, Allie Tarver, Nicholas Tarver, and Will Tarver attended the L.S.C.A.R State Conference. These young leaders took part in a business session where officer and chairmen reports were given. They enjoyed a tour of the Cane River Creole National Historic Park and celebrated accomplishments during an awards luncheon. Of the group, Leah, Allie and Nicholas will serve as state officers for the 2017-2018 year and were sworn into office.

In April, Fort Jesup Society member Robert Lombardino attended the 2017 National Convention of the National Society Children of the American Revolution in Arlington, Virginia. The National President, Erin Moore, of the State of Geogia, presided at the convention. The Senior National President is Joanne Zumbrun of Texas.

Former Gov. Edwards’ 90th birthday bash...

Sabine and Natchitoches Parishes were well represented at the recent birthday party for former four-time Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Edwards held in Baton Rouge on August 12. A local couple put it together, and several area business people, former and current political figures, and longtime friends of Edwards’ attended the historic event.

When Gov. Edwin W. Edwards asked Robert and Laurie Gentry of Many to head up his 90th birthday celebration, they were happy to accept the project. As plans got underway, the couple resourced every bit of talent, goods and gear they could from across Sabineland to put together a swanky party that was covered by USA Today, the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report and dozens of high profile media outlets across the country as a packed, sold-out success.

LSMSA ranks as one of America’s best public high schools

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts has been ranked in the top one percent in the nation, and the faculty have been ranked the third best in the nation, on Niche’s 2018 Best Public High Schools in America list.

Niche’s annual K-12 rankings are based on rigorous analysis of dozens of statistical factors and millions of re-views from students and parents. Along with the rankings, Niche also released 2018 report cards, which assign letter grades to more than 100,000 K-12 schools and districts across America on topics like academics, college readiness and teachers.
