Funderburk graduates from Louisiana College

Caleb Lynn Funderburk of Florien graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies at Louisiana College’s 158th Commencement cer-emony, May 16. Funderburk was one of 148 LC graduates on which the college conferred degrees.“Our graduation ceremo-ny represents the Super Bowl of higher education,” said Louisiana College president Dr. Rick Brewer.

FFA’ers compete and win

On January 13,Samantha Simmons participated in the FFA Dis-trict 5 Contest, held in Converse, Louisiana, placing First in the Extemporaneous Speaking event. Just two days later on Janu-ary 15, Simmons participated in the Area 2 Speaking contest only to place First in the Extemporaneous Speaking again. On June first Simmons will participate at the Louisiana State FFA Convention in the State Extemporaneous Speaking Event.

Students donate to Kids Hope program

Northwestern State University education students in an early childhood methods class donated materials for literacy bags for children in the Kids Hope program at Parks Elementary and L.P. Vaughn. Members of the class were, front row from left, Makayla Thompson, Ja’Marion Kelly, Ricky Scott, Jaydra Lewis, Tommy Wiley, Jaleah Jackson, Zikiyia White, Ellegence Moses-Nicholas. “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” slated at Sabine Theatre

The Sabine Parish Players will be kicking off their theatre season with hilarious comedy, “A Bad Year For Tomatoes” on Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. Other performances are scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. and a Sunday, May 31 matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets ($8) may be purchased at the Box Office prior to the performance.

Negreet High School recently competed in the largest division at the Northwest Literary Rally in Natchitoches. Negreet won the Sweepstakes against 14 other schools. A total of 62 Negreet students competed with the following placing in the top five
