Joseph Darien Basco, Sr. (87) passed away on October 12, 2026 while surrounded by his family. Grave side services will be held at St John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Many, La at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 with Father Tim Hurd officiating.

Darien was raised in Many, Louisiana with a strong work ethic and a profound respect for his elders. Anyone who knew him had to endure his numerous, creative, mischievous pranks. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Many High School. He went on to attend USL in Lafayette and NSU in Natchitoches. He decided he was ready to start his family so he married the love of his life, Margaret Josephine Anderson in 1960. To support his family he chose a career in the Oil Field Services that spanned 45 years. He was a mentor and role model for future generations of oil field workers.

Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a true conservationist. He shared his knowledge and love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren so that they could continue his legacy. Family and friends benefitted from meals prepared with the game he harvested. He took personal pride in managing his family tree farm and sharing that knowledge to ensure future generations will continue his vision.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eula Lea Newman and John Adout Basco. His brothers John Russell (Bernice), William Thomas (Patsy), sister, Stephanie and granddaughter Ashton McMillian, beloved Aunt Willa Newman Thompson and cherished in-laws Weldon and Cleta Anderson.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, children Joseph Darien Basco, Jr. (Lou), Tracey Lintzen (Todd), Brett Basco, (Rachel) and Amy Basco. Grandchildren Adyson McMillian Leach (T.J.), Trevor Lintzen, Cori Basco Burrell (Cody), Trent Lintzen (Victoria), Kirsten Basco, Brent McMillian, Jr. (Zoey), Darien McMillian (R.J.) and Remy Rogers. The family extends their deepest appreciation to the employees of Many Health Care and Allegiance Hospice for their love, attention, and exceptional care.
