    Cecil Herndon Sanders was born on Sept. 14, 1917 in Marthaville and passed from this life on March 1, 2014 at the age of 96 years. A funeral service for Cecil was held on Friday, March 7 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Marthaville. Burial followed at Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville at 2 p.m. Visitation for family and friends was held at Crossroads Baptist Church from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 and from noon until time of service on March 7, 2014. Officiating the service was the Reverend Glen Howard assisted by the Reverend Earnest Little. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Parish Sanders; son, Robert Herndon Sanders; parents, L.N. Sanders and Maggie Carroll Sanders; sister,  Versie Rea Barnhill Booker; brothers, Huey Sanders and Pete Sanders. Cecil is survived by his son, Charles Sanders  and wife, Shirley of San Clemente, Calif.; brother, Ronald Sanders and wife, Joyce of Nixa, Mo.; sister, Ann Dixon of Bossier City; step-children, Cedric McCallister, Jack McCallister, Sharon Carter and Linda Jacobson; grandchildren, Troy Sanders, Robert Sanders, Mark Tuthill, Robin Sanders; special nieces, Barbara Barnhill Floyd, Diana Laroux, Patty Floyd and Frances Walker; numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cecil lived a long life and loved to “recollect” on days gone by. He shared many stories of his youth, farming, working in sawmills, his days in the C.C. Camp and his work for the city in Lake Jackson, Texas. After his retirement, he and Georgia moved back home to Marthaville. Cecil was a long standing Deacon at Crossroads Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was always ready to help a friend in need. During his retirement years, Cecil enjoyed gardening and carpentry. He could build anything he put his mind to. He made many rocking chairs and cradles that are greatly treasured by family and friends.  Cecil learned to cook in his later years and enjoyed hosting family and friends for fish fry’s. Cecil could best be  described as a man of determination. He was a man of strong faith who loved his family. He was loved by many and a friend to all who knew him.
