George Truette Alford

Funeral services for George Alford, 78, of Florien, were held on August 15, 2019 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Leach, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Chance officiating.

George Truette Alford was born on Friday, October 11, 1940 in Many. He passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Sabine Medical Center in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Eula Alford; brother, Jerry Wayne Alford.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Burns Alford of Florien; daughter, Pam Martone of Many; son, Bubba Alford of Houston, Texas; grandchildren. Mallory Martone, Madison Martone and Courtney Barajas and husband Taylor all of Many; great grandson, Dawson Barajas, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Robby Lang, Dan Alford, Harlan Leach, Sam Lucius, Danny Self, Ray McCormick.

Evelyn M. Hopkins

Funeral services for Evelyn Hopkins, 74, of Many, were held on August 17, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Evelyn M. Hopkins was born on Wednesday, January 10, 1945 in Zwolle. She passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Eugene Tate and Marry Jo (Ebarb) Tate and her brother, Joseph Tate.

She is survived by her sons, Rodney Hopkins of Tyler, Texas, Lance Hopkins of Many, and Landon Hopkins of Many; sisters, Jeanete Hawkins of Shreveport, Beth Tate Newton of Bossier City, and Mildred Cannon of Van, Texas; brothers, Albert Tate of Shreveport, Charles Tate of Arkansas, and William Tate of Killeen, Texas; four grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Floyd Terrell, Jr., of Pleasant Hill, were held on August 20, 2019 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rubin Weaver, Rev. Troy Terrell and Rev. Dean Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Jr. Terrell was born December 18, 1937 in Pleasant Hill. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 17, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hazel Terrell; brother, Bob Terrell; mother and fathern-law, JB and Elaine Sherwood; and son-in-law, Gary Emmons.

Robert Larry Salter was born on Sunday, April 18, 1943, in Many. He passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jefferson Salter, Jr. and Jewel (Stroud) Salter; wife, Joyce McDaniel Salter, and brother, Royce Salter.

Burnis Eli Wilburn

Funeral services for Burnis Wilburn, 92, of Pelican, Louisiana, were held on August 10, 2019 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield with Rev. Sam Wheeless officiating. A graveside service with military honors immediately followed the service at the Pelican Cemetery.

Burnis, who was also known to many as B.E., Junior, or Pac, was born on March 3, 1927 in Pelican to Burnis Sr. and Jimmie Paxton Wilburn. His mother passed away when he was just eighteen months old, so Burnis was raised by his grandparents, Garland and Lizzie Paxton. Burnis passed away peacefully on August 7, 2019.

James Adrian French

James French, 68, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Robeline after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 9, 1951 to Jewel and Jim Crit French in Many.

He was preceded in death by his father Jim Crit French and Mother Jewel Vernal (Hardy) French; sister, Lois Daniels; brothers, Billy Ray French and Charles (Peanut) French.

He is survived by his daughter Amanda French of Campti; sister, Joyce Brown and husband Bob of Negreet; brother, Ronnie French and wife Mary of Natchitoches; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

Marvin Eugene Leone

Funeral services for Marvin Leone, 85, of Zwolle, were held on August 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Marvin Eugene Leone was born on Sunday, January 14, 1934 in Zwolle. He passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lou Leone and Della (Rivers) Leone; brothers, Bill Leone, Ellis Leone, Raymond Leone and Dully Leone; and sister, Lucille Ebarb.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Leone of Zwolle; daughters, Judy Garcia and husband Stan of Zwolle and Renee Longoria of Zwolle; sons, Louis Longoria and wife Patty of Mansfield, Bill Longoria and wife Carolyn of Bunkie, Louisiana, and James Gilcrease and wife Marie of Bossier City; sisters, Margarete Clark of Shreveport and Hazel Hendrix of Clarksville, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Elizabeth Alford Chance

Funeral services for Elizabeth Alford Chance, 43, of Anacoco, were held on August 3 at East Leesville Baptist Church of Leesville with the Reverend Wayne Chance and the Reverend Tommy Kiker officiating.

Burial followed in the Fort Jessup Cemetery in Many, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Elizabeth was born on September 2, 1975, in Natchitoches to her parents, Steve and Janie Williams Alford. She passed away on July 29, 2019, at MD Anderson in Houston. She worked for the Vernon Bank as a loan officer, and also as a manager of Emerald Hills in Florien. She was a graduate of Leesville High School Class of 1993 and Northeast Louisiana University Class of 1998. She loved music and dancing.

She was a loving wife and daughter, but her greatest love was being a mother.

Leonard Wayman “Uncle Billy” “Billy Boy” Miller

Leonard Miller, age 76 of Zwolle passed away on July 27, 2019, after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are being handled by Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. The funeral was held on July 31 at Union Baptist Church. Internment followed at Belmont Cemetery with military honors. Officiating the funeral service was the Reverend Bobby Simmons.

“Billy Boy”, or “Uncle Billy” as many knew him, was born on February 28, 1943 to Delos and Gertharie Miller of the Dess community. He attended Negreet School and was known to everyone simply as the fun-loving “Billy Boy.”

Funeral services for Sherman Lewing, Sr. 94, of Florien, were held on August 1, 2019 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Price officiating. Burial followed at Florien Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sam C. Lewing and Edna Leola (Manasco) Lewing; wife, Nell Lewing; brothers, Ray Lewing and Herbert Lewing; sisters, Bonnie Smith and Elizabeth Ann Lewing.

He is survived by his son Sherman Lewing Jr. and wife Catherine of Florien; sisters, Myra Anthony of Many, Lola Jean Williams of Florien, and Shirley Kinney of Chillicothe, Ohio; granddaughter, Shawnee Sedberry and husband Ron of Clifton, Texas; grandsons, Private Tristan Alen Molina of Ft. Huachuca, Arizona and Private Spencer Allen Molina of Ft. Eustis, Virginia; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Sherman Lewing, Sr. was born into this world Friday, May 22, 1925, son of Samuel C. Lewing and Edna Leola Manasco from Fisher.
