Kitty Oglesby Murray

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, Kitty Oglesby Murray. She peacefully went to sleep in the Lord, surrounded by family, on October 1st at University Medical Center in Lubbock TX. Born on a spring day in Colfax, Louisiana, Kitty graced this world with her gentle spirit and unwavering resolve. It is with both sorrow and gratitude that we celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.

Kitty’s journey began in Verda, Louisiana, where she cultivated a love for learning and a thirst for knowledge. As co-valedictorian of her high school class, she embarked on a path of education, fueled by a deep desire to become a missionary nurse. Her dreams led her to work at the State Institution for the Insane in Pineville, Louisiana, and subsequently to the North Louisiana Sanitarian Nursing School in Shreveport. Her passion for caring for others remained a guiding force throughout her life.

David Wayne Seegers

David Seegers, 76, of Groves, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at The Medical Center of SETX in Port Arthur.

Date and time to be determined.

David was born in Many, Louisiana, on January 9, 1947, he was the son of Henry Owen Seegers and Rosa Belle Seegers. He was a Groves resident for over forty years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and shooting. He will be dearly missed by all and forever be in our hearts.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Owen Seegers, his mother Rosa Belle Seegers, and two brothers, Jimmie Seegers and Lloyd Seegers.

Memorial services for Lee Isgitt, 84, of Many, LA will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Cyle Clayton and Bro. Wayne Chance officiating. Visitation will begin on Saturday at Noon at Calvary Baptist Church, Many, LA.

Lee Raymond Isgitt was born on March 26, 1939 and passed away on September 20, 2023. He retired as a Master Trooper from the Louisiana State Police. Lee R. served the community as a law enforcement officer in various capacities for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fisher and Dovie Isgitt; sisters, Peggy Smith and Sharon (Susie) Bridges; daughter, Tanya Leone; grandson, Gabe Campbell and son-in-law, James Campbell.

Eloise Brown Hayes was born on October 5, 1925 to William Thomas Brown and Ethyl Hammett (Brown) in Forest, Louisiana and passed away Thursday September 14, 2023 in Many, Louisiana.

Joy Ann Hyatt

Joy Hyatt was born on December 6, 1940 to Jiles and Inez West Dowden. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Micheal Hyatt on April 1, 1961 in Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church. She and Micheal were married for 62 years. Joy was a homemaker who loved and cared for not only her children but her nieces, nephews and many others who wandered in and out of their home. But watch out if you stepped out of line, because if she grabbed a flyswatter, you knew you were in big trouble. She loved her children, but adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joy was an excellent cook. Her steak and gravy and banana pudding are legendary. Joy loved attending church and worshipping with her family and friends. She was passionate about playing the piano and she shared this gift by playing the piano for many years at Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Dorothy Anderson, 80, of Florien will be held on Sunday, September 17,2023, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Florien with Bro. Wayne Chance and Bro. J.P. Handy officiating. Burial will follow in the Florien Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 5 pm until 9 pm at First Baptist Church of Florien. Dorothy was born on July 19, 1943, in the Spanish Lake Community of Natchitoches Parish to James Pleasant and Effie Mae Knippers. Her mother, one brother, and three sisters soon moved to Florien, LA, where she grew up. She attended Mt. Carmel High School and played basketball for the Mt. Carmel Lady Mustangs. She graduated high school in 1961. She passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, after battling cancer for seven months.

Victor “Paw” Johnny Cooper

Victor Cooper, age 87, a resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana has passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September, 5, 2023. Vic was born on May 13, 1936 in Many, Louisiana to Amos and Nola Mae Cooper. He was the second eldest of 8 children. Vic was the kindest, strongest, most gentle, selfless, loving and genuine man who touched countless lives. He never met a stranger and would take care of anything for anyone. He was a Godly man and very strong in his faith. Vic had an unbelievable testimony that he shared with anyone, anytime he had the chance. Some of his favorite things to do were gardening, hunting, fishing and most of all, spending time with his family. Many can attest to the fact that Vic was the best human that they have ever met. Vic is loved immensely and greatly missed every single day. He is the rock of the family always and forever.

Marvin Leleux officiating. Burial will follow in the Florien Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, September 05, 2023 from 5 pm until 9 pm at Alford Heights Baptist Church.

JoAnn Was born on Monday, September 18, 1942 in Zwolle to Frank and Selina Martinez Garcie. She went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 01, 2023 at her home in Florien with her family by her side.

She grew up in Zwolle in a large family of siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that she remained close to and loved dearly.

She started her career at Starlite Restaurant in Many and continued on to Toro Hills Restaurant and Country Club until it changed to Emerald Hills Golf Resort. Over the many years, she developed lifelong friendships with co-workers and customers.

Grace Marie Kelsey was born on May 21, 1923, in Trinidad, Colorado. From the age of six, she was raised by loving parents, John W. and Mamie Mc-Coskey on a beautiful farm outside Howard, Kansas. During her childhood, she developed her significant musical talents, singing and playing the piano and organ. After graduating from Howard High School, she worked with her father, serving as Deputy Treasurer for Elk County, Kansas. She met and corresponded with Oren Kelsey Jr. during his military service during WWII, and they married upon his return from Italy after being wounded in 1944. They remained devoted to one another for 73 years.

Services celebrating the life of Hazel Lehr will be held at Warren Meadows Funeral Home, 355 South Capitol St., Many, Louisiana, on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 11AM officiated by Bro. Buck Furlow. Visitation for friends and family will immediately precede the service from 9-11AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bayou Scie Cemetery in Zwolle.

Mrs. Lehr was born on October 13, 1945, in Many, Louisiana, to her parents, William Edward and Hazel Oree Neal Ritter. She passed away on September 1, 2023 in Zwolle. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Darrell Lehr; sons, Carlton Ray Lehr and Byron Edward Lehr and siblings, Mildred Ritter, Charles Ritter and Wanda Sue Peshoff. She is survived by siblings, Billie Ritter Whitfield, Michael Ritter and Kenneth Ritter, and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
