David Martin Piehler

Graveside service for David Martin Piehler was on December 20, 2017 at Belmont Cemetery in Belmont. David passed on December 18, 2017 after a brief but devastating illness. David worked from high school to the age of 60 in the oilfield, having only been retired for two years before falling ill. He gave his blood, sweat and tears to his family, who he loved more than anything. He will be remembered by sons in whom he instilled the meaning of “integrity” and “respect.” It takes a strong woman to love a Piehler man and David was loved by one of the strongest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Theo Piehler. He is survived by the love of his life, Lisa Piehler; sons, Dennis and Michael with wife, Tara; grandchildren Emma and Victor; brothers, Richard and Chris, Rebecca; sister, Arlynne and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Derrell “Mr. C” Cassell

Funeral services honoring the life of Derrell Cassell, 78, were held December 19 at Henrietta Congregational Methodist Church in Converse with the Reverends Chucky Clark and Logan Brock officiating. Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery in Converse. He was born on July 6, 1939 to Randolph and Marie Pritchard Cassell and entered into rest on December 17, 2017. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Derrell retired from the Sabine Parish School Board and also retired from the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cassell; parents; and brother, Joe Cassell. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Derrell R.

Frances Loree Sneed Jackson

Frances Loree Sneed Jackson, 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 19, 2017 at Sabine Retirement Center. Funeral services were held December 22 at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many. Burial followed at the Florien Cemetery. Loree was born October 26, 1929 in Fisher to Clyde and Bessie Sneed. She graduated from Mount Carmel High school and later from Northwestern State University. Soon after graduation, she began teaching at Oak Grove High School in Sabine Parish. While teaching, she met the love of her life, W.E. Jackson, Jr. who had just returned from serving in World War II in the navy. They married on June 30, 1951 and soon thereafter moved to El Dorado, Arkansas where they owned and operated a Singer Sewing store, El Dorado Sewing Center, on Main Street for decades. Their fine work allowed them many opportunities and took them around the world to places including New York, California, Hawaii and Spain.

Jackye Rae Pruitt

Graveside services for Jackye Rae Pruitt, 84, of Many were held December 12 at Warren Cemetery with the Reverends Ricky Miller and Simon Buxton officiating. She was born Thursday, February 2, 1933 in Shreveport, and she passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Titus Pruitt; parents, Jeff Hopkins and Exie Arrington Hopkins; brothers, J. K. Hopkins and Hardy Hopkins; and sisters, Annie Mae Corley, Ava Dell Knippers, Myrtle Moore, and Willie Horn. She is survived by her niece and caretaker, Joan Bush and husband, Jimmy, of Many along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Frank Priest, Jr.

Colonel Frank Priest, Jr., 84, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Saturday, December 17, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 29, 1933 in New Orleans to Frank Priest, Sr. and Alyene Stockstill Priest. He moved to Mississippi in his early childhood. He graduated from University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” as a pharmacist. Colonel Priest was a true Patriot. He proudly served in the Navy before serving in the United States Army as a pilot and worked as a nuclear pharmacist. He retired as a full Colonel. He loved his country and was honored to serve it. After retiring from the U. S. Army, Colonel Priest worked in various states as well as Sabine County as a pharmacist. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a true fan to the Ole Miss football team.

Kenny Paul Tibbett

Funeral Services for Kenny Paul Tibbett, 67, of Many were held December 15 at First Baptist Church of Many with the Reverends Marion Spence and Jonathan Bost officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. He was born Sunday, July 9, 1950 in Shreveport, and passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at his home in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Preston “Percy” and Lucille Veuleman Tibbett; brother, Mike Tibbett; and sister, Theresa Tibbett. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann Tibbett of Many.; son, Jason Tibbett and wife, Heather, of Woodworth.; daughter, Ashley Morgan and husband, Dennis, of Natchitoches; sister, Barbara Johnson of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Bailey Tibbett of Woodworth, Jacob Tibbett of Woodworth, Addison Tibbett of Woodworth, Dennison Morgan of Natchitoches and Sawyer Morgan of Natchitoches; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Adam Lloyd Jeter

Funeral services honoring the life of Adam Lloyd Jeter, 34, of Zwolle were held December 19 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. He was born October 4, 1983 in Shreveport to Tommy and Kae Acklin Jeter, and entered into rest December 15, 2017 in Zwolle. Adam grew up with a strong love for his family, deer hunting, fishing, running dogs at the fox pen, and working in the hay fields with his dad and brothers. He was a very hard worker at any job he held and had a kind heart that would help anyone out in need. He enjoyed spending time with his nephews, nieces and special aunt, Brenda Sepulvado and family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nick and Winnie Acklin; and paternal grandparents, W.F. “Dub” and Mary Jeter.

Roger Hornsby

Roger Brent Hornsby, 59 of Marthaville passed away at his residence on Sunday November 5, 2017. He was born January 8, 1958 in Pleasant Hill to Evelyn Farmer and Mark Hornsby. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Jake Hornsby and wife, Jamie, of Zwolle; brother, Frank Hornsby and wife, Sherry, of Anacoco; sister, Mary Byles and husband, Valmore Byles of Many; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery in Converse. She was born September 29, 1933 to David and Mabel Lassiter and entered into rest December 2, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James Lorrie Gulett; husband, Harlan C. Kenney; and brother, Phillip Lassiter. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Jeff Gulett and Suzanne McMillian of Converse, Matthew Gulett and wife, Pamela, of Mount Sterling, Kentucky; daughter, Loria Thomas and husband, Brian, of Sharpsburg, Kentucky; sister, Barbara Stewart of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
