James Lee Sr.,

James Arvis Lee Sr., 73, of Center, Texas passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, in Center, Texas. Funeral services were held May 16 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Bros. Ron Luman and Travis Lee officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Mr. Lee was born April 16, 1946, in Ebarb to R.D. and Emma Ebarb Lee. He retired from Asplundh Tree Company at the age of 62 following 39 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Center Bible Fellowship.

James “Randy” Martin

James Randal Martin, 68, of Many passed from this life on May 9, 2019, in Shreveport following a short battle with lung cancer.

Born July 14, 1950 to Estes and Minnie Martin in Many J.R. “Randy” Martin was a devoted family man, dedicated educator, avid woodworker, zealous bass fisherman, low bass vocalist, and master gardener. For four decades he served the Sabine Parish School Board as teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, and board member. A longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church of Many, he loved singing in the choir, narrating cantatas with his signature baritone voice, and lending a hand in church landscaping.

Johnny Tippey

Funeral services for Johnny Tippey, 74, of Florien were held May 11 at Antioch Baptist Church with Bro. Wayne Chance officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery in Florien.

He was born on Wednesday, June 28, 1944 in Calion, Arkansas, and passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his home in Florien.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Bell Bains Tippey.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Tippey of Florien; god daughter, Amanda Remedies and sonin-law Paul of Florien; god sons, Jonathan Remedies of Florien, and Gage Remedies of Florien; sister, Betty Collins of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; brother, Lou Tippey of Houston, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Brian Miller, Cori Funderburk, Ray Funderburk, Jr., Paul Remedies, Jonathan Remedies, Gage Remedies and Benji Funderburk.

Ida Mitchell

A memorial service to honor the life of Ida Elizabeth Mitchell will be held on May 18 at 3 p.m. at Gandy Baptist Church in Florien. Come wearing purple to celebrate her life with us, she was never a fan of the traditional black somber attire.

Ida passed away on Tuesday, April 16,2019 in Many at the age of 64. She was born on August 30, 1954 to Ruby Lamb and William Schultz.

Ida was a kind and living soul who put everyone before herself, she was a strong independent woman who worked her whole life. She worked at Natchitoches Times for 20 plus years, and Sabine Parish School Board for eight years. She was also a foster parent for 10 plus years. She always said that her calling was helping families and loving their children until their mother and fathers got back on track. She never judged, she always seen the good in everyone.

Funeral services for Cynthia Lawane Mitchell Barrois, 50, of Noble, were held May 9 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Parker officiating. Burial followed in the Warren Cemetery.

She was born on Tuesday, November 5, 1968 in Shreveport and passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at her residence in Noble.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Etoyce Mitchell; maternal grandparents, Oda and Dona Mitchell; and paternal grandparents, Wilson and Irene Mitchell.

Bonnie Self

Memorial services for Bonnie Kathryn Sepulvado Bass Self of Hemphill, Texas and former resident of Zwolle were held on May 13 with service and rosary. She was born December 6, 1959 in Zwolle to Juanita Lopez and Bobby Sepulvado and entered into rest on May 9, 2019. She was a member of St. Pius I Catholic Church and Souled Out for Christ Ministries.

Bonnie loved life and enjoyed having a good time with her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was a kind and sharing woman. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. In addition, she enjoyed making people laugh until her last hours.

Preceding Bonnie in death were Joe Bob Huggins; her parents, Juanita Lopez and Bobby Sepulvado; brother, Carl H. Sepulvado; and grandson, Acen Vines.

Betty Jo Anders

Funeral services for Betty Jo Anders, 72, of Florien, were held May 4 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery.

She was born on Monday, January 27, 1947 in Hemphill, Texas, and passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in Shreveport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Shankers and Lillian Craig Cook; daughters, Renee Smith and Lasondra Smith Roy; and brothers, Jr. Craig and Sammie Cook.

She is survived by her son, Danny Smith, Jr. of Sunset; daughter, Tempra Fanguy of Many; sister, Judy Fontenot and husband Terry of Zwolle; 12 grandchildren; along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Alberta Turnley

Alberta Bass Turnley was born April 30, 1925 in Zwolle to Dennis Bass and Mary Bush Bass and she entered into rest on April 28, 2019 in Many. She was the last surviving member of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bass of Hemphill, Texas.

Alberta loved to garden and to grow her own vegetables. Everyone who knew her was well aware of her humorous personality and the love she had for making other people laugh! She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Each year she always looked forward to her family reunion in Texas.

Preceding Alberta in death were her husband, Sidney Turnley; and her parents, Dennis and Mary Bass.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Danny Dubose and wife Lillie of Hemphill, Texas, Charles Turnley of Many, and Howard Turnley and wife Tammy of Many; daughter, Betty Adams and husband Bobby of Zwolle; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Beth Magee

Katherine Elizabeth “Beth” Lunday Magee, the daughter of William Baker “Bill” Lunday, a World War I veteran, and Zaidee Mason Lunday, was born in Pelican on June 29, 1922. She passed away April 29, 2019. She was a descendant of a pioneer DeSoto Parish family. Her grandparents Dr. William H. and Anna Hart Mason settled in the Grove Hill community and later moved into Pelican in the late 1800s, after the construction of the railroad. One of Beth’s most vivid memories involved the Louisiana maneuvers in 1941. Hundreds of young soldiers arrived by train in Pelican and shopped at the local stores, much to the delight of the young ladies of the town. Beth often spoke of meeting Dwight Eisenhower and George Patton at the store run by her father and mother, formerly Dr. Mason’s office. Beth graduated from Pelican High School in 1939. She married James Franklin Magee, a World War II veteran, in 1942.

Dr. R.J. Oosta, M.D

Dr. Richard John Oosta, 90, passed away April 23, 2019 in Shreveport leaving a legacy of Christian faith, love for family and others, of service and ministering to others and a strong work ethic. He was a beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandfather “PawPaw” and great-grandfather. He was married to Margaret Virginia Stovall Oosta for 67 years.
