Funeral services for Mary Jo Pouncey Wright will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Many with Brother Wade Penfield and John LaTour officiating. Burial will follow at the Many Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA.
Mary Jo Pouncey Wright was born in Yuma Arizona to Philip Clark Pouncey and Ivy Virginia Dupree Pouncey. She lived most of her life in Many where she met and married her husband Terry Wayne Wright.
Mary Jo taught in Sabine Parish schools until her retirement. She loved science and enjoyed teaching at both Florien and Many Jr. High. She was an avid gardener and became a Master Gardener. She loved cooking and enjoyed hosting luncheons. She was an active member of Many First Baptist Church until she moved briefly to Shreveport before moving to Tyler, TX to be near her daughter.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by husband Terry Wayne Wright and parents Philip Clark Pouncey and Ivy Virginia Pouncey.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter Virginia Rae Wright McBride and husband Dan McBride, son Terry Wayne Wright, Jr, sister Penny Hutchinson and husband Paul Hutchinson, granddaughter Mollie Eldridge and husband Colton, grandson Jonah McBride and 2 great grandsons Cannon Eldridge and Oliver Eldridge.
