Hardy Parker

Funeral services for Hardy Gene Parker, 51, of Florien, were held November 17 at Pisgah Baptist Church, Toro Community, with the Rev. Wilton Anthony officiating. Burial followed in the Pisgah Cemetery. Hardy Gene Parker was born on Friday, December 18, 1964 in Leesville. He passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at his residence in Florien. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Brooke Whitney Parker; father, Jeanie Ray Parker; maternal grandparents, Fred and Elsie Dew; paternal grandparents, Fred Parker and Gladys Hilton Parker; and his grandparents, Andy and Ruth Ferkovich. Hardy graduated from Hornbeck High School in 1984. He then moved to Dallas, Texas and became a heavy-duty truck mechanic. Hardy enjoyed working out, lifting weights, running and riding his bike but he enjoyed spending time with his children more than anything. They were his life.

Joyce Andries

Joyce Major Andries, 86 of Baton Rouge passed away Tuesday November 8, 2016. Joyce, born in Ventress, was an active member of St. George Catholic Church. She led an exceptional life, touching many hearts and souls in her faith and fund loving spirit. Most important to her was being a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Claude Andries, Sr. and seven of her nine siblings. She is survived by her sister, Deana “Dee” Major Debetaz of Lake Charles; brother, James “Spike” Major of Ventress; children and their spouses, Robert C. Andries, Jr. and Julie, Yvette Andries Slocum and Wayne, John L. Andries and Diane, and Bryan D. Andries and Susan; and her “baker’s dozen” grandchildren, Adam Slocum and Sidney, Scott Slocum, Robert C. Andries III, Emily Andries, Rebecca Andries, Mark Andries, Eric Andries, Timothy Andries, Benjamin Andries, Madelyn Andries, Megan Andries, Matthew Andries, and Claire Andries.

Inez Dowden

A going home celebration honoring the life of Inez West Dowden were held at Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church in Hornbeck November 12 with the Reverends Nick Hilton and Douglas Downs officiating. Inez was the oldest member of Prewitt’s Chapel Church and life long resident of Prewitt’s Chapel Community. She attended school at Hornbeck High School and married Jiles Joseph Dowden on July 27, 1929. Their union was blessed with a Godly home and seven children. She was a loving faithful wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Inez was a wonderful cook and enjoyed the family gathered around her dining table. Everyone always wanted a slice of her famous coconut cake. After losing her husband at 50-years-old she chose to go to work outside her home. Inez was employed as a cafeteria cook at Plainview High School until its closing. Then she worked at Toro Hills for a number of years. Later she was employed at USA Hospital at Fort Polk Department of Nursing Assistant until her retirement.

Glenda Salter

Funeral services for Glenda Turner Salter, 73, of Florien, were held November 13 at First Baptist Church of Florien with the Reverends Wilton Anthony and Patrick Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the Florien Cemetery. Glenda was born on Saturday, September 4, 1943 in Sabine Parish. She graduated from Florien High School and earned her degree from Northwestern State University. She married James Lamar Salter in 1965 and was a devoted and loving wife until his fatal car accident in October 1983. She came to know the Lord at a young age and played the piano and organ for her church since she was 15 years of age and continued to play keyboard each Sunday until her passing. She once mentioned that she had not missed many Sundays in all those years. In 1999, she retired from the LA Department of Family Services after 33 years of service. While employed with the DFS, Mrs. Salter was a social worker for the elderly, disabled and the blind citizens of Sabine Parish.

Lucille McDonald

Graveside services for Lucille Stalder McDonald, 102, of Bullard, Texas were held November 11 at Grand Cane Cemetery with Jimmy Price officiating. Mrs. McDonald died November 9, 2016 in Tyler, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Converse. She was born October 10, 1914 in Nowata, Oklahoma to James Gillespie and Elizabeth Inez Hayes Stalder. She went to Texas from Nowata, Oklahoma in July 1931. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Audley D. Maxwell and her second husband, Edwin Dean McDonald; brothers, Lewis Stalder, Paul Stalder, and Ted Stalder; sister, Thelma Stalder and grandson, Archie D. Martin, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Jimmye Maxwell Martin, Edwina McDonald Watkins, and Patsy McDonald; sister, Nancy Stalder Miller; brother, Joseph Daniel Stalder; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and several nephews.

Ronald Dyes

Funeral services honoring the life of Ronald Dean Dyes, 71, were held November 11 at Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Marthaville with the Reverendd Dean Johnson and Glenn Howard officiating. Interment followed at Marthaville Cemetery in Marthaville. Ronald was born on December 31, 1944 in Shreveport to JB and Willie Forsong Dyes and passed away on November 7, 2016 in Marthaville. Ronald was a member of Ajax Lodge # 325, he received a past master 25 years certificate. Ronald worked in foreign oil fields in Libya and Saudi Arabia. Ronald’s hobbies were fishing Black Lake, he is the record holder for Black Lake. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and 4-wheeler riding with friends and family in the OK mountains. He was a former Board Member for Farm Bureau of Natchitoches Parish and also member of Natchitoches Parish Cattleman’s Association.

Burial followed in the Bayou Scie Cemetery. Leona Rushing was born on Friday, September 24, 1926 in Vernal, Vermont. She passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her residence in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Leon Galley and Alice Nancey Dickson Galley; husband, Kenneth Rushing Sr.; sister, Darlene Brown; and brothers, Sheldon Galley and Sharrell Galley. She is survived by her children, Mari Rushing Collis and husband, Brad, of Wyoming, Kenneth “Ray” Rushing Jr.

Funeral services honoring the life of Wayne Oneal Brown, 82, were held November 12 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Many with the Rev. Leon Manshack officiating. Burial followed at Beulah Baptist in Many. Wayne was born in Alexandria to Aurther Oneal Brown and Eunice Estelle Scarbrock and passed away at his home in Many. Preceding him in death were his parents, Aurther Oneal Brown and Eunice Estelle Scarbrock and young brother, “Shorty.” Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Joseph Wayne Brown of Negreet; daughters, Crystal McGuire of Negreet, Mary Cutsinger of Alexandria, Donna West of Gardener, Conna Atwood of Ball and Rhonda Hurts of Brunswaick, Georgia; sisters, Betty Kinley of Ball, Margaret Hollingsworth of Ball, and Ada Willson of Shreveport; brother, Jerry Brown of Alexandria; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a countless number of nieces and nephews. Eldred Campbell

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Eldred Ray Campbell, 78, was held November 4 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Tim Hurd officiating. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Zwolle. Eldred was born on February 6, 1938 in Noble to Isaac Corties Campbell and Emma Isabelle Sepulvado Campbell, and passed away on October 31, 2016. Eldred drove a forklift for most of his career. He enjoyed gardening, planting trees, and being outdoors. Eldred was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Eldred was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Emma Campbell, and his sisters, Cathy Smith, Sue Preston and Sina Sepulvado.

Patricia Durr

Memorial Services for Patricia A. Durr, 76, of Pleasant Hill, were held November 4 at Wallace Baptist Church in Pelican with Dr. Jeff Jinks officiating. Patricia was born on Sunday, June 16, 1940 in Newport News, Virginia. She passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at her home in Pleasant Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters and one grandson. She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Durr of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Catherine Fuss of Virginia and Cherie Wieman of Virginia; sons, Joseph Pulzone, II and wife Camille of Shreveport and George Pulzone and wife Carrie of Pleasant Hill; step-children, David Durr and wife, Tommie, of Natchitoches, Debra Modica of Texas and Terry Durr of Ft. Jessup; 28 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
