Ardelia Culverhouse

Graveside services honoring the life of Ardelia H. Culverhouse, 74, were held December 8 at St. John’s Cemetery in Many with Father Michael Thang’wa officiating. Ardelia was born in Detroit, Michigan to Miguel and Carmen Tapia and passed away with her family by her side. Preceding her in death are her parents, Miguel and Carmen Tapia. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Tyler Culverhouse of Shreveport; sons, Loren Alford of Many and Jimmy Alford of Many; daughter, Tina Alford of Plainview; grandchildren, Chris Alford, Nicole Mitchell, Colton Alford, Jace Alford, Jared Alford, and Kalei Alford; great grandchildren, Ashton Alford, Boston Alford, Cannon Alford, SJ Moreno, Graylei Alford, AdaLynn McCormic, and Camdyn Alford. Ann D. Neal

Ann D. Neal born November 30, 1927 in Welch, West Virginia passed away November 29, 2016 at the age of 88 at the Toledo Rehab & Retirement Center in Zwolle. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert L. Neal; mother and father, Mary and Joseph Deinback; brother, John Deinback; and sister and brother-in-law, George and Mary Conner. Left to cherish her memory are her niece and nephew, Karen and Sonny Hardee; eight great nieces and nephews; seven great-great nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, Sugar. Ann had lived in Pleasant Hill for 27 years. She had been a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, a 20-year member of Sabine VFC and loved visiting with the ladies at Busy Hands. The family would like to thank the Toledo Rehab & Retirement Center for their loving care and concern of Ann during her stay there.

Bill Russell

The Rev. Bill Russell went home to be with Jesus December 7, 2016 at the age of 87 years at Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in Many with his family at his bedside. He was born on May 10, 1929 in Fisher to Charles and Lucy Phelps Russell. He attended and graduated from Fisher School in Fisher. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1949 as a corporal. In 1951 he met and married the love of his life, Norma Edwards and started a family and was blessed with five children. Bill always loved cooking and in the 1960s he operated the L&L Café in Many and the El Camino Restaurant in Natchitoches. In 1971 he surrendered to the ministry and pastored churches in Sabine and Vernon parishes. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clinton and Sid Russell; sisters, Helen Eicher and Shelby Rutherford and great grandson Hayden Russell.

Funeral services honoring the life of Herbert Joe Sudbury, 88, were held December 3 at Toledo Bend Church of Christ in Many with Minister Stuart Bailey officiating. Burial followed at Toledo Bend Church of Christ in Many. Herbert was born on May 30, 1928 in Natchitoches to Herbert James Sudbury and Mary Flora Sudbury. He passed away on November 30, 2016 with his family by his side. Preceding him in death were his parents, Herbert James Sudbury and Mary Flora Sudbury and his wife Louise Sudbury. He is survived by his sons, James Sudbury and wife, Lisa, of Terrell, Texas and Paul Sudbury and wife, Paula, of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Bethany Reynolds and husband, Mark, Trevor Sudbury, Joshua Sudbury, Angela Fleming and husband, Eric, Michael Swanson and wife, Taylor, and Eden Thompson and husband, Josh; and great grandchildren Jacob Reynolds and Blayne Fleming. Funeral services for Kevin “Bubba Joe” Joseph Brown, 17, of Florien, were held December 3 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Toro Community, with the Reverends Gary Dupuy, Jimmie Evans, and Jason Kees officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Kevin Brown was born on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 in Shreveport. He passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Florien. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Hilda Brown and uncle, “Big Joe” Joseph K. Brown.

Alexander Haymon

Funeral services for Alexander Nathaniel Haymon, 15, of Hornbeck were held December 3 at Hornbeck First Baptist Church in Hornbeck with the Reverends Jack Bell and Brady Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Castor Cemetery in Leesville under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Alexander passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Kelli Wallace Chapman and his uncle, but loved him as his brother, Justin Bruce Legg. Alexander was a freshman at Hornbeck High School. He loved basketball, x-box, 4-H, and talking to his friends on Facebook. He so loved his animals, especially his poodle, Coco. He is survived by his mother, Karen Byrd Haymon and sister, Calli Haymon both of Hornbeck; grandfather, Eugene Wallace of New Llano, and cousin, Dallas Wayne Chance Legg. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Janice Kay Laurence was born on Saturday, July 23, 1949 in Pleasant Hill. She passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Willis Knighton Pierremont in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice Johnson and Eula Mae Murrell Johnson; brothers, Butch Johnson and Calvin Dean Smith; and sisters, Johnnie Chism and Sandra Ford. She is survived by her husband, Frankie I.

Marion Lee Fowler

Marion Lee Fowler, born December 24, 1927 in Alva, Oklahoma, died in his home in Converse on November 14, 2016. Marion was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a barber for over 60 years and made many friends over the years. Marion was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was loved and respected by many hunting and fishing buddies. He is preceded in death by his parents William Alonzo Fowler and Pearl May; sister, Pauline Davis; and brothers, Clarence Fowler, William “Billy” Fowler and John Fowler.

Burial followed in the Beulah Cemetery. Juanita Ross was born on Tuesday, April 26, 1927 in Sabine Parish. She passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Toledo Nursing Center in Zwolle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd “Pat” Lewing and Maggie Durr Lewing; husband, William “Bill” Washington Ross; and her brother, Harold Lewing. She is survived by her sons, Michael Floyd Ross and wife, Rachael, of Many and James Gregory Ross of Alexandria; sister, Patsy Cooper of Lufkin, Texas; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends; and three dogs and two cats. AJ Cusimano

Mr. Anthony “AJ” Joseph Cusimano Jr., 77, of Florien went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 25, 2016. He was born on February 26, 1939, to Anthony Cusimano Sr. and Jennie Guzzino Cusimano in Lake Charles. Mr. Cusimano retired and relocated to the area two years ago. Mr. Cusimano loved to hunt deer and hogs as well as bass fish. Mr. Cusimano was a member of Pisgah Baptist church for one year and was baptized in June at Pisgah Baptist Church. He had been involved in Mission work in Alabama since 2005 with Thompson Chapel Assembly. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. Mr. Cusimano was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Cusimano Sr. and Jennie Guzzino Cusimano and son, Steven Cusimano. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marion Garza Cusimano; daughter, Susan Delaney-Okey; grandchildren, Kristian and Katelyn. Visitation will be December 1, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville.
