Pauline Cassel

Pauline Cassel joined her beloved family in Heaven on August 2, 2017, a few weeks away from her 104th birthday. She spent her final 15 years in Baton Rouge moving there to be near her niece.Born on August 17, 1913, to Thomas Abington Cassel and Mary Ethel Boyd Cassel, Pauline grew up in rural Sabine Parish near Converse. The eldest of four children, at age six she lost her father to influenza. She helped care for her siblings while her mother taught school. She graduated from Converse High School and attended Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University. She graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree in elementary education. Devoted to her family, she helped support her brothers’ and sister’s educational endeavors. Pauline was a member of Zwolle First United Methodist Church.

Nadine Savell

Funeral services for Nadine Veuleman Savell were held August 9 at Ft. Jesup Baptist church in Many with the Reverends Larry Hubbard, Jerry Penfield and Mike Haynes officiating. Interment followed in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery. She was born January 22, 1926 in Robeline and went to be with her Lord on August 6, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha Savell; son, Danny Savell; father, Frank M. Veuleman; mother, Kate Mitchell Veuleman; sisters, Ruth Latham and Geraldean Savell; and brothers, Lester “Doc” Veuleman and N.E. Veuleman.

Dolores “Tink” Richardson

Funeral services for Dolores “Tink” Marietta Richardson, 62, of Florien were held August 9 at Hornbeck Full Gospel Church with the Reverends Buddy Freeman and Tony Moran officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery. Tink was born Sunday, December 12, 1954 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in Roanoke, Virginia.She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel John “Plowboy” Richardson; son, Samuel John Richardson, Jr.; parents, Robert and Dora McCarraher; and brother, Robbie McCarraher.

Jessie Longoria

Funeral services for Jessie Donald Longoria of Zwolle were held August 4 at First United Pentecostal Church of Zwolle with the Rev. Phillip North officiating. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery. He was born and passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Willis Knighton South in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Westfall, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Crystal Westfall Longoria of Zwolle; father, Steve Ryan Longoria of Zwolle; paternal grandparents, Jessie and Donna Longoria of Zwolle; maternal grandparents, Charles and Donna Denton of Zwolle; paternal great grandmother, Christell Malmay of Zwolle; aunts, Jessica Sepulvado of Zwolle, Kayla Longoria of Zwolle and Kimberly Westfall of Quincy, California; and uncles, Ray Westfall of Quincy, California and David Earl Evans Jr. of San Augustine, Texas. John Gentry

John Irwin Gentry was born April 15, 1933 to Herman and Sarah Gentry of Sabine Parish and passed away August 3, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sue Gentry Walker; and great-great grandchild, Oakleigh Horton. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eunice Gentry of Many and sons, Joe Gentry of Pollock, Keith Gentry and wife, Christine, of Many, Gregg Gentry and wife, Michelle of Hornbeck, and Gary Gentry and wife, Christine, of Many; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Bonnie Free of Shreveport; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great friends. A memorial for John will be held August 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Oakhill Baptist Church in Many. A fellowship will be held after the service.

Jonathan Litton

Funeral services honoring the life of Jonathan Richard Litton, Sr., 34, were held August 7 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield with the Reverends Bob Latham and David Permenter officiating. Burial followed at Allen Cemetery in Mansfield. He was born on December 27, 1982 in Shreveport to Donna and Thomas Litton, Jr. and entered into rest on August 3, 2017 in Marshall, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Evans Litton. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his father, Thomas Litton, Jr. of Mansfield; children, Jonathan Richard Litton, Jr., Thomas Lane Litton, and Lacey Jade Litton all of Mansfield; brother, Thomas Litton III and wife, Emily, of Converse; sisters, Paula Smith and husband, Justin, of Mansfield, and Cassie Mann and husband, Eddie, of Mansfield; and grandmother, Maxine Evans of Mansfield. Honoring as pallbearers were Henery Touchton, Jeremy Evans, Jeremy Phillips, Brandon Melton, Casey Callender, Alex Singleton, Scott Maines, and Alan Maines.

Bobbie Parker

Bobbie Lorene Parker, 77, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away July 5, 2017 at her home in Florien. She was a resident of Florien for over 30 years. Bobbie was born August 25, 1939 to the late Fred and Gladys Parker in Leesville. She was raised in Vernon and Sabine Parish. Bobbie is the mother of two daughters, Frieda Marze of Pt. Arthur, Texas, and Virginia Marze of Houston, Texas and one son, Bobby Benson, Jr. of Florien. She leaves behind two brothers, Jerry L. Parker and wife, Melva, of Many and Cullen “Jimmy” Parker and wife, Barbara of Hornbeck. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Glady Hilton Parker and brothers, Jeanie Ray Parker and Freddie Joe Parker. Bobbie worked hard all her life and enjoyed working. She worked in medical records for many years. Upon retirement she decided to return to work at Ft. Polk in Role Play, where she worked until 2016. She was very thrifty, and enjoyed canning and working with her flowers.

Carl Blackmon

Carl Dean Blackmon born February 22, 1947 passed at his residence in Houston, Texas on July 14, 2017. A Sabine parish native, Carl graduated from Florien High School in 1965 and then attended Northwestern State University.In 1967 he married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline “Jackie” Salter and the two moved to Houston, Texas. There he worked with Western Geophysical and British Petroleum until he retired in 2005. Carl and Jackie are members of Westheimer Community Church where he has served as an Elder of the church since 2001. He lived his life in service of God and truly in the service of others. He was always there with loving support, a kind but quiet word, and kept everyone around him smiling and laughing. Carl Dean Blackmon will truly be missed by everyone blessed to have known him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace Hayes and Gilbert Blackmon and brother, Lamoine Blackmon.

Louise Hays

Louise Whitley Hays were held July 11 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with the Reverends Jeff Coleman and Craig Forque officiating. Burial followed in the Castor Cemetery in Leesville. She was born in Shreveport January 26, 1923 and met her beloved husband, Herman Hays, while he was stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City. They made their home in Leesville around 1948. Louise worked at the Ben Franklin store downtown for many years. Many customers enjoyed and bought her flower arrangements. She loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church Leesville for over 60 years. She served the Lord by singing in the choir, being active in WMU, working with GAs, keeping records in the Jr. Department and was a member of the DMA (Don’t Mention Age) senior group. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Louise will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs.

Scotty Craig

Scotty Ray Craig, 46, left this world on July 17, 2017 in the comfort of his childhood home. He was born July 29, 1970 in Pineville to Harmon and the late Sandra Craig. Scotty was a very loving person who many people adored. He always had a smile on his face and could make anyone laugh. Scotty loved being around family, laughing and sharing old memories. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Harmon Craig; daughters, Laken of Many, Taylor of Shreveport, and Kyleigh Craig of Shreveport; and a grandson Jeramiah Lynn Lawhorn. The service to celebrate the life of Scotty was held July 24 at Grove Cemetery in Vowells Mill. The family asks that any donations made to the Hickory Grove Cemetery fund, Attn: Kathy Pitts, 160 Cox Lane, Robeline, LA 71469, in Mr. Scotty’s name.
