Jacquelyn Oxley

Funeral services for Jacquelyn Funderburk Oxley, 84, of Many will be held November 16 at 2 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many with burial following at Fort Jessup Cemetery. Visitation will be held November 15 beginning at 5 p.m. Bro. Wayne Chance will be officiating. She was born December 10, 1932 and passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017. Jackie grew up in the town of Many, graduating from Many High School in 1951. She went on to attend Northwestern State, and graduated with a degree in Education, in 1960. She was a teacher for 32 years, teaching a variety of grades. She had a passion for education and loved each student that entered her classroom. In her later years, her great-grandchildren became her passion. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all six of them.

Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove. She was born October 13, 1940 to Fred and Erma Deason and entered into rest November 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Hugh” Sherwood; father, Fred Deason; mother and step-father, Erma Mae Smith and Calvin Smith; sisters, Brenda Tholborn and her husband Bill, and Betty Jean Peterson; sister-in-law, Ruby Deason; and sons-in-law, Jack Watson and Bobby Wayne Raborn.

He was born Sunday, May 31, 1936, and passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Tomball, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cass King Jr.; sister, Virginia Freeman; and great grandchild, Blakely Lenae. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Salter King of Tomball, Texas; daughters, Faithe Laney of Tomball, Texas and Hope Williams and husband, Scott, of Tomball, Texas; son, James W. Funeral services for Mary Ellon Robinson, 74, of Many, were held November 1 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Daron Chandler, Dusty Chandler, and the Rev. Matt Warren officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. She was born Friday, June 18, 1943, and passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Many. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Jennifer Rebecca Robinson and Mandy Robinson; parents, Harvey Alvin Alford and Katherine Lelia Alford; sister, Ginger Parkman; nephew, Dale Chandler; and aunt, Ellon Alford. She is survived by her daughters, Renee Shelton and husband, Charles, of Karnack, Texas and Ronda Robinson of Florien; sister, Pete Wedgeworth of Mt. Carmel; brother, Jimmy Alford and wife, Carolyn, of Houma; grandchildren, Katherine Shelton and Tori Shelton; father of her children, Wayne Robinson of Many; along with many adored nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Barbara Colleen Colston, 75, of Many were held November 3 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cyle Clayton officiating. Burial followed in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery. She was born Friday, December 19, 1941 in Oklahoma, and passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade McClanahan and Leonia Cain McClanahan; and brother, Mike Oxley. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Colston of Many; daughters, Dinah Wright Dybas and husband, Bob, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Tory Colston Pearson and husband, Luke, of Shreveport, and Tamra Colston Kaufman and husband, Dave, of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Bailey and Chloe Dybas, Reagan, Jordan, and Ryan Pearson, and Evan and Taylor Kaufman; along with a host of friends. Pallbearers were Wayne Colston, Alan Colston, Lee Raymond Isgitt, Jerry Reed, Benny Funderburk, and Buster Jordan.

Burial followed in the Warren Cemetery. He was born Sunday, April 6, 1941 in Sabine Parish and passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his residence in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Pleasant and Effie Mae Knippers Pleasant; and sister, Mildred Tanton.

Bettie Hanson Dixon

Bettie Jane Mitchell Hanson Dixon was born in Zwolle February 10, 1925. She went home to be with the Lord on October 22, 2017. She spent several years of her childhood in Louisiana, but eventually moved with her family to Houston, Texas. In August of 1944 she married a young Air Force Lieutenant named Halworth “Hollly” Noble Hanson from Holmen, Wisconsin. The following July the young couple welcomed their first child. They named her Karen Ann. In 1951, their second daughter was born in October—Kristi Lee. In 1988, Holly passed away in Pasadena, Texas. In December 1991, Bettie married Melvin Dixon and welcomed his children into her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Hobart Mitchell; brother, Hobart, Jr.; sister, Maurine; and brother-in-law, Frank White. She leaves behind her husband, Melvin C.

Burial followed at Converse Cemetery in Converse. He was born November 14, 1949 to Laros and Marsha Keggley Ryals and entered into rest October 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melonie Ryals Wiley; brothers, Jack Ryals and Tommy P. Ryals; sisters, Clara Ryals George, Marjorie Ryals Paul and Dorothy Ryals Gamlin; son-in-law, Edward Montz; father-in-law, Sherman Page and mother-in-law, Betty Page. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Betty Ann Page Ryals of Converse; sons, Eddy Ryals and wife, Shonda, and Chad Ryals and wife, Katherine, both of Converse; daughters, Angela Montz of Ponchatoula and Chrissy Ebarb and husband, Jason, of Converse; son-in-law, Craig Wiley Sr.

William “Mitch”Mitchell

William Henry “Mitch” Mitchell was born September 29, 1946 to E.C. and Lois Collins Mitchell, the youngest of seven children. He passed away at 71 at The Oaks in Shreveport on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from Alzheimer’s. He leaves behind an incredible legacy that included a big family. He married Nancy Raiford, the love of his life, 35 years ago and together they multiplied. Children include: Leslie Kroeger and husband, Chad, of Stuart, Florida; James and wife, Nina, of Franklin, Tennessee; Jonathan and wife, Karla, of Los Angeles, California; Joshua and wife, Hallie, of Franklin, Tennessee; Jarred of Nashville, Tennessee; Audra of Shreveport; Jordan of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Arianna of Shreveport; and three boys still at home Justus, Joel and Jaden of Bossier City. He was also a proud granddad to eight: Taylor and Jake Kroeger, Jameson and Siena Mitchell, Eli Mitchell and Caitlyn, and Lucy and Liam Mitchell.
