Virgie Mae Powell

Funeral services for Virgie Mae Powell, 90, of Robeline, will be held Wednesday February 21 at 10 a.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Nazarene Cemetery. Visitation began Tuesday February 20 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. She was born Wednesday, September 7, 1927 in Flora, and passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 in Robeline. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Powell and son, James Calvin Powell. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Diane Powell of Robeline; granddaughters, Rhonda Diane O’Brien of Robeline, and Kimberly Renay Haigh of Natchitoches; grandsons, Calvin Wayne O’Brien of Robeline, and Marvin Powell of Robeline; great grandchildren, Chassidy, Walter, Lucas, Kirsten, Jax, Lily, Eva, Kyra, Conner, Justin, Emma, Hannah, Michaela and Faith; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden, Addyson, Joedyn and Austin; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Judy Davis, 72, of Many were held February 17 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Lowe officiating. Burial followed in the Union Springs Cemetery. She was born on Monday, January 14, 1946 in Minden, and passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Holiday Ailstock and Etoile Sutherlin Ailstock. She is survived by her husband, George Davis of Many; sons, Sammy J. McCormic of Many, Lee Davis and wife, Melody, of Elysian Fields, Texas and Wade Davis of Many; grandchildren, Trevor Spear, Alan Warfield, Alene Davis, Isaac Davis and Carson Davis; along with a host of family and friends. Katherine B. Carter

Katherine Carter, 89, was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to her family. She passed away peacefully at her home in Many on February 17, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on July 4, 1928. She moved to Baytown, Texas in 1952 where she resided for over 50 years. During that time she was employed for over 30 years at General Telephone Company. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Terry Glenn Rao; husband, James Carter; parents, Calvin Henry and Nina Elizabeth Banks Bowden; sister, Lorie Washburn; and brothers, Charlie Bowden and Max Bowden. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Truxillo and husband, Nick, of Cat Spring, Texas and Susan Rao Hills and husband, Chris, of Many; stepson, Bob Rao and wife, Pat, of Lexington, Texas; brother, Calvin H. Bowden, Jr.

The Rev. Winston Perry Lowe

Funeral services for Rev. Winston Perry Lowe, 94, of Many were held January 31, at Many Church of the Nazarene with the Reverends Daniel Lowe, Chuck Fountain, and James Ericson officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Nazarene Cemetery. He was born Saturday, August 25, 1923, in Minden, and he ascended into heaven Sunday, January 28, 2018, at his home in Many. The Rev. Lowe served as a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years. His pastorates included Pine Island; Blanchard; Willingboro, New Jersey; Marksville; Friendship; Crowley and Natchitoches. After he retired from full-time ministry, he served for several years as associate pastor in Many. He served as treasurer of the Louisiana District Church of the Nazarene for 40 years, and was a member of the Louisiana District Advisory Board for several years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. in Italy and Panama. He was a man who loved God, his family, his church, and his country.

Graveside services and interment for Mr. Kenneth Ray Malley, 70, were held February 8 at the Cotton Valley Cemetery in Cotton Valley with Bros. Gordon Vaughan and Wilton Anthony officiating. Services were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Springhill. Mr. Malley was born March 22, 1947 to Hershel S. and Frances Cox Malley in Cotton Valley and passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 in Shreveport. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a retired consultant in the oil and gas industry, and loved gardening and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs.

Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery. She was born on Thursday, May 24, 1934 in Sabine Parish, and passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at her residence in Florien. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reo Wright; son-in-law, Frank Yerby; parents, Roy and Nell Thaxton Skinner; brother, Billy Ray Skinner; sister, Ethel Austin; and nieces, Jill Trainer and JoNelle Austin. Theo Ezernack

Theo Elizabeth Ebarb Ezernack, 93, formerly of Zwolle, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Natchitoches. Services were held following her visitation February 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Natchitoches. She was instrumental in helping to start the Alter Guild and the gift shop at the church. She dedicated her younger life to sewing outfits for first communion candidates and making school uniforms for many former St. Mary’s students. She and her late husband, Nathan, made it possible for many children to attend St. Mary’s through their generous contributions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Ezernack; parents, Paul and Florence Ebarb; brothers, Joseph Donald Ebarb, Jesse Patrick Ebarb, Paul Fredrick Ebarb; and sisters, Kathryn Boudreaux, Vivian Ebarb, and Dr. Frances Bybee.

Carolyn Baker

Carolyn McKay Baker passed away at her home February 8, 2018 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. A graveside service was held February 12 at Many Cemetery in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Reginald McKay and Janet Isabel McKay, and her brother, Peter Gordon McKay. Carolyn was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and moved to Many in 1969. She graduated from Many High School in 1971 and later graduated Northwestern State University School of Nursing in 1975. Carolyn accomplished an impressive nursing career with Christus Schumpert Health System which spanned a period of over thirty years. Carolyn cherished her colleagues and thoroughly enjoyed her profession. Carolyn was a proud and loving mother, a wonderful mother-in-law, a doting grandmother to five precious grandchildren, and a loyal friend to many.

Laverne Colston

Laverne Mitchell Colston peacefully went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2018, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was born July 27, 1933, in Robeline. The oldest daughter of 11 children, Laverne, affectionately called Dotsie, was a motherly figure to all of her siblings. She loved cooking for the family daily and helping her mom raise their large family on the farm. As she had a growing family of her own, she often told wonderful stories of the fun and adventure of her childhood years. As a young woman, she fell in love with a young man she had known since her childhood. A little wink from across the aisle at church from this handsome guy was all it took for their romance to blossom. She and Dub were married on September 25, 1954, and together they built a loving home. Laverne was a very smart, independent, and capable woman that took great satisfaction in her work. Her first job was at the local grocery store.

Bobbye Gooch

A gathering of family and friends for Bobbye Horn Gooch, 83, of Moss Bluff will be held Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m. at the Belmont Fellowship Hall. Graveside services will follow at the Belmont Cemetery with Bro. Glynn Howard officiating. Bobbye graduated in 1952 from Belmont High School. She was a member of the girl’s basketball team; playing and winning many ball games. She worked for many years at the old Fraser Hospital and later at the Many pharmacy with Paul and John Gewin. She passed away December 17, 2017 at her home in Moss Bluff after a long illness in the care and watchful eye of her loving son, Dennis Mitchell formally of Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Gooch; parents, Clifton and Malva Carter Horn; son Chris Mitchell; daughter, Diane Serrett; sisters, Merlene Horn, Lynn Horn Oxley, and Janice Horn Westfall; and brothers, Gene Horn and Richard Horn.
