Harley Powell

Harley Powell, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend to many, went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2018. He was born March 2, 1936 to James A. Powell and Exie M. Powell, in Florien. Harley was a very talented man who could build anything he imagined and accomplish anything he set his mind to. He loved being outdoors and he loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by parents, James A. Powell and Exie M. Powell; sisters, Margie Poarch and Hassie M. Cryer; brother, James R. Powell; and grandsons, Aaron E. Hampton and Kendell A. Price Jr. He is survived by his sweetheart of 56 years, Sharon Y.

Jeffrey “Markie” Mitchell

Jeffrey Mark Mitchell was born on May 12, 1963 and left his home on earth August 30, 2018. Markie leaves behind his wife, Missy Mitchell of Robeline; children, Justin Mitchell and wife, Laci, Chelsea Mitchell, and Jesse Mitchell all of Robeline; grandchildren, Jaxon, Kellyn and Madalynn; father and mother, Jack and Mable Mitchell of Robeline; sister, Cathy Saunders and husband, Roy, of Robeline; nephews, Tanner Mizell, Jace Mizell, Alan French and Peanut Saunders; along with a host of friends. His brother, David “Tootie” Mitchell, preceded him in death. Markie was a hard worker and an avid outdoorsman. He loved his family with all he had. He touched many lives in his lifetime and will truly be missed by many. We rest with the knowledge that he is with the Lord and his brother now and we hope he is at peace. Funeral services were held September 2 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel.

Vernice “Vern” Wright

Vernice C. Wright, 85, a resident of Baton Rouge passed away on August 31, 2018. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1964. He was a CPA and entrepreneur and was great at everything he touched. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. He was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father and stepfather, friend and colleague. His wisdom and advice inspired many. He will be greatly missed. His parents, Ethel Tompkins and V.L. Wright of Many, precede him in death. Vern is survived by his wife, Sandra S. Wright; children, Robin Louise Wright Thurman, Candace Elaine Wright, Michael Calvin Wright, Robert V. Byles, Jr., Rebecca K. Brown and Raymond Gale Byles; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation was held at Resthaven Funeral Home on September 2. Burial followed at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Canon Hospice.

James Adkinson, a 1956 Zwolle High School graduate, passed away in San Antonio, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zwolle, on Saturday September 15 at 9 a.m.

Nola Ham

Funeral services for Nola B. Jinks Ham, 73, of Keithville were held August 29 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Zwolle City Cemetery. Nola was born on Saturday, December 23, 1944 in Sulphur. She was a devoted wife of 55 years and loving mother and grandmother, left this world on August 25, 2018 to be reunited with her two sons. She loved gardening and canning. Most of all she enjoyed feeding everyone and spending time with her puppies. It was time for her to spend eternity with our heavenly father and her two boys. She will be missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Jinks;  mother, Ethel Stanley Jinks; sons, Chris Allen Ham and David Glen Ham; and siblings, John Kelvin Jinks, Elvin Bryant Jinks and Annie Lou Boudreaux. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Ham Sr. of Many; sons, Wayne Ham Jr.

Charlotte Lewing

Funeral services for Charlotte Geneva Lewing, 82, of Many were held August 23 at Friendship Nazarene Church with the Reverends Jonathan Bost and James Ericson officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Nazarene Cemetery. She was born on Monday, March 2, 1936 in Natchitoches Parish, and passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Lewing; parents, Andy Redic Stewart and Joyce Gladys “Moss” Stewart; and one sister, Shirley Stewart. She is survived by her sister, Linda Wall and husband, Thelton, of Robeline; niece, Melaine Wall and Fred M. Maxine Lidbetter

Maxine Elizabeth Nichols Lidbetter, 78, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, August 24, 2018, at her home. She was born June 3, 1940, in Many. She was a retired school cafeteria manager. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max C. and Violet Randolph Nichols; sister, Faye Cupples and husband, Bob; and niece, Tonya Rainer. She is survived by her husband, Michael Lidbetter of De Queen, Arkansas; children, Cheri Barber and husband, Bo, of Converse, Sheila Kanatzar and husband, Bob, of De Queen, Arkansas, Amy Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Tony Lidbetter and wife, Lindsey, of Soap Lake, Washington; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held August 28in the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Many with Mike Henderson officiating. Margie Elsie Rike

Margie Elsie Rike, 88, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, in her Katy, Texas residence. She was a native of Noble and had been a longtime resident of Sulphur before moving to Katy, Texas in 2013. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur for many years where she loved to participate in senior activities such as the Agin’ Cajuns Choir, senior game night, and visiting with special friends. Margie was a quiet, kind, and loving person, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a graduate of Noble High School in Sabine Parish, and also of Northwestern State University where she was a member of the Purple Jacket Honor Society. She was a teacher at Sulphur High School from 1950-1953 and returned to work at Citgo in 1959, retiring in 1992, after 32 years of service. Survivors include her children, Emanuel Andrew “Andy” Rike, Jr.

Funeral services honoring the life of Louella Madiar were held August 20 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Duane Trombetta officiating. Interment followed in the Converse Cemetery in Converse. Louella was born on January 24,1943 in Converse to Marvin “MT” Truett and Maggie Ebarb Brown. She passed on August 17, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Dean “E-Key” Remedies Sr.; grandson, Kurt Craig; and brothers, Joseph and David Brown. She is survived by her spouse, James Andrew Madiar; daughters Mary D.

Bobby Gerald Hippler

Funeral services for Bobby Gerald Hippler, 74, of Pleasant Hill were held August 7 at Spring Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Azel Ott officiating. Burial followed in the Spring Ridge Cemetery. He was born on Tuesday, October 12, 1943 in Many, and passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Mansfield Nursing Center in Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ott Hippler; parents, Allen H. Hippler and Sybil (Wedgeworth); brother, Danny Hippler and sister, Etta Hippler Bly. He is survived by his sons, Martin Hippler and wife, Karen, of Belmont and Bobby Hippler of Belmont; daughters, Rebecca Hippler Samples and husband, Harold, of Gonzales and Loretta Guevara and husband, Hazael, of Pleasant Hill; sister, Barbara Beaumont of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers were Cody Hippler, Rick Gaddis, Jad Gaddis, Eric Gaddis, Jeremy Guevara, and Jairo Tercero.
