Throughout the state of Louisiana, in every community and every parish, there are legends that have been left to us. In the little Cold Springs Community in northern Vernon Parish there is the old legend of Sambo Sanks. But just who was Sambo Sanks?

On December 12, the fall session of the Grand Jury for Sabine Parish returned indictments on two cases.

Dustin Lee Crow was indicted on six counts of first degree rape and Samantha Crow were indicted on three counts of first degree rape.

The couple were arrested at their home on July 31 by the Louisiana Department of Justice and Office of the Attorney General on numerous counts of child pornography, child rape, and sexual abuse.

On September 6, Dustin Lee Crow was charged with additional rape and sexual abuse charges as another victim was discovered by law enforcement.

The Sabine Parish Community Christmas Choir, under the direction of Carole Troha, presented “Have You Heard?”, a Celtic Christmas Celebration on Tuesday night, December 10 at 7 p.m. The event was hosted at the First United Methodist Church of Many, with the Rev. Gloria Youngblood offering the welcome. The church was beautifully decorated with greenery, poinsettias, and candles.

The program was dedicated to the memory of Randy Martin, who narrated the cantata with Donna Smith Ammons for over 20 years. Martin passed away last May.

Accompanying over 30 vocalists was Patsy McCormick, with narration by Ammons.

The cantata began with the lively “Christmas Day in the Morning”, followed by “Come Messiah, Come Emmanuel” and the questioning, “Have You Heard?”

Many Mayor Ken Freeman is pleased that the Town of Many has received a grant of more than $20,000 to purchase playground equipment for the children of Many.

The grant came from Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Louisiana and was supplemented with additional funds from the Town of Many. The grant was written by Many grants writer Jane Hardwick.

Freeman said there was a real need at the Sabine Parish Fairgrounds for an area where younger children could safely play when siblings were participating in different sports at the ballpark.

Dean and Amanda Lambert are the 2019 Grand Marshals for the 2019 Many Christmas Parade on December 21.

Dean was born in Natchitoches and raised on a farm near Robeline. He graduated from Robeline High School in 1966 and attended Northwestern State University for the next four years. It was during this time that he met his wife Amanda. After the young couple married, they lived in Natchitoches briefly before moving to Many in 1971. They’ve lived in Many for the last 48 years.

Project Celebration and Taylor House wishes to thank Community Bank of Louisiana and Mr. JJ Blake for their innovative fund drive to tie their donation to the success of the Many High School Football team.

While we always root for Many High School football, it was fun to attend games or listen and know that every touchdown was another $50 that would go towards the renovation of Taylor House and the services Project Celebration provide in this area.

Project Celebration cannot thank Coach Jess Curtis and the players on the Many High School football team enough for their dedication and their success on and off the field.  They deserve high praise for yet another winning season.  Without the generosity of Community Bank and the talent of the Many High School coaching staff and Many High School football team, this would not be possible.

Many’s Hometown Christmas will take place this Saturday, Dec. 21, with lots of events planned for everyone.

The annual parade will take place on San Antonio Avenue at 3 p.m.  with lots of floats and riders, and lots of candy and trinkets for all parade viewers.

Dean and Amanda Lambert are the Grand Marshals of the parade.  Mary Perry is honorary grand marshal.  Savanah and Siarah Hall are the Young Achievers and Emma McElwee is the Rising Star. All six of the parade honorees will lead off the parade. Santa Claus himself will be the last honoree in the parade of floats in downtown Many's Cultural District.

Then the festivities begin at the fairgrounds immediately after the parade with fun for everyone.  There will be food, arts and crafts, a magic show, and lots and lots of giveaways.
